BIT.TRIP Presents... Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien
Bigger Tigger the Barbecue Dog™ Jun 29, 2013 @ 8:20pm
First or second one?
Which BIT Trip Runner did you like better? The first or second. Some people may say the first one because it is more challenging. Some people may say the second one for being more fair and having a different artstyle? What do you think?

The first is more challenging, which I like, but the sequel improved on everything and made the game so much more compelling and a much more enjoable experience.

They're both really good, but I really like the second one. The controls have definitely improved since the first game, and the tunes are really great too.

The second one has more content, but I like the art style and difficulty of the first one better. Maybe it's because my first game system was a hand-me-down Atari 2600.

The second one is far more approachable for starters while the first one is focused more on a hardcore audience. I like the first one slightly better though, because the concept was still fresh back then, and the simplistic artstyle was pretty effective. Also, completing a level felt far more rewarding in the first one.

Second one :P

I have to say the second one, for a couple of reasons:

1. I like the music better (not that the first game's music was terrible or anything) and
2. CHARLES FRIGGIN MARTINET!

I liked the first one, but I LOVED the second. It's simply so polished and well made. It appeals a bit more to me on the casual side, as opposed to the first one, which has lead to me spending a lot more time playing it.

I prefer the second one. The old-school graphics on the first one were nice, but I love the colorful graphics of the second. Plus, I do like mid-level checkpoints. Challenge is fine, but it's also nice to actually be able to finish some of the harder levels.

I think they're at a tie for me, unless you get into specifics.

Content- 1 < 2
Difficulty- 1 > 2
Extras- 1 <<< 2
Music- 1 = 2
Art- 1 = 2
Runner2 is great in it's own quirky way, but RUNNER is also an excellent retro game (along with all the rest of the BIT.TRIP games, of course). RUNNER is simple and frustratingly hard. Runner2 is less simple, and much less difficult, but if you liked RUNNER, you'll like Runner2.
