Also one of my problems with 1 was that it felt repetitive because as I remember it every world had one song on which additions were made with every level, i.e. 1-1 being the simplest 1-20 would be the most complex one but it would still be the same song.

For that reason and because I found it difficult I quit the game before reaching world 2. How does this one compare to the first?

I think this has a way more manageable difficulty curve but you can also set it to hard and easy if you want to.

Go for it, 2nd is much easier

yeah it's very much easier. most blatantly because of checkpoints which were lacking in the first.

however they dumbed down the overhaul difficulty also which is less great.
