Game looks and feels good. The core gameplay though is just a "Tower defense" type of game masked under entertaining storyline and unique Japanese atmosphere plus some complexities with placing special buildings which I couldn't even fully understand. If you love tower defense genre and like what you see in the Trailer you may want to give it a try. I, however, am not a tower defense fan and I don't like games that are stacked with different effects/complexities just to make it stand out. As someone who loves chess and plays chess on daily basis, I don't care about how beautiful the game is or how unique it looks and feels, I just care about it's core gameplay.
I'd rather choose "Advance Wars" or "Great Big War Game" if I wanted to play good turn-based chess-like enhanced alternative or "Age of Empires I/II" if I wanted to play real time strategy with minimal learning curve and clear core mechanics or "Shogun: Total War" if I wanted to play great combination of both worlds.
P.S. I actually purchased this game by fault and please make sure you don't repeat my mistake. I was looking for "Shogun: Total War" which I purchased a few years ago on DVD. I only remember that it was one of my most favourite strategies without remembering how it exactly looked like so I purchased this one ("Total War Battles: SHOGUN") believing I'm buying the game I loved so much in the past. Man was I on wrong track. It's a shame they called these 2 strategies so similarly it's hard to distinguish their names even.
