I'm not sure why I did not try this game before, it has been in my library for quite a while but I never got myself to play it. So far, I'm pretty entertained by this medieval fantasy RPG where you get to play the role of the greenskins for once.
+ Combat is fun, although a little clunky and repetitive. I actually found myself using most of the combat skills, but some more than others. It usually burns down to Styx trying to keep the big nasties stunned and carving the squishies up while Arkail crushes everything else.
+ The music is nice.
+ The characters are pretty ok, although a little cheesy and they try to be edgy a little too often.
+ Graphics are somewhat dated, but overall the game looks pretty nice.
- Stealth adds a little bit of variation to the missions, but the AI is just too stupid to make it feel awesome (guards blindly walk past corpses, you can easily slice a guard's throat while his buddy is just a few meters away).
- Linear maps, even encountered some invisible walls, no need for exploring at all. The scenery is all pretty static, the rooms feel empty and lifeless.
- Missions are pretty linear as well. Most of them are like this: cutscene, walk a bit, cutscene, assassinate as many enemies without getting detected, stab the strongest enemy, regular fight, cutscene, repeat.
- Rage mode can pretty annoying at times, not only because Styx will get his head bashed in if he stands too close, but when the is finally over, Arkail just stands around like he's stunned for 5 seconds. This caused me to die multiple times, in most situations the fight was pretty close as well..
That seems like a lot of criticism, but still I kept playing. Why? I'm not sure.. I guess it's just a lot fun to bash the Inquisition's heads in as this big angry Hulk-like orc. I'm not a fan of party based RPGs, but switching between Styx and Arkail in combat, pausing the game and assigning orders works really well for this game. It does not feel like a chore, but it isn't increbily innovative either.
