10 may look like enough, but you need to realize that part of the money you pay for the game goes towards implementing mechanisms against you.

Here's what is says on the ACTControl site (actcontrol.net):

Act Control was design to be the least intrusive copy protection on the market. Act Control is an activation system. It does NOT install any driver (actually it does NOT install anything at all on your PC). Act Control does not “phone home” randomly and without your consent.

It only contacts the activation server ONCE:
1. When you first launch the program to activate it.
2. When you CHOOSE to manually deactivate it

The only thing sent TO the server is :
1. Your hardware code
2. Your serial number

Then only thing sent FROM the server is :
1. your activation code which is written to the registry just like any product with a serial number does.

Generally it’s stored HKEY CURRENT USER\SOFTWARE\[PUBLISHER NAME]\[PRODUCT NAME]

Feel free to check yourself, we have nothing to hide!

So it looks pretty tame (even more so than Steam). Plus you can de-activate a machine whenever. (Unless you usually play on 10 machines at the same time eh?)

Yeah I wouldnt buy nor trust anything from the people who made StarForce. And for what it's worth, I am getting real sick n tired of steam peddling games such as this for weeks on end without one word about it on the steam page. Fed up with it.

no that depends on wether the individual game devs give you the option to de-activate, with this game you can not.

The funny thing about all this, it took the cracking teams 12 days to post a fully cracked copy of this on line. And for what, to piss off a few customers, cause many more to change their minds about purchasing this game in the first place, caused the profit to decrase 'cus of forking out for the 3rd party drm. That Doesn't Even Stop Piracy.

Good catch. Defeinitely can't buy it in that state, here's hoping the publisher gets a clue at some point.

I already stated that I wasn't going to buy this last year (Was willing to buy this a full price when it launched).


The price is currently at a point where I'm willing to experiment with this particular DRM (Can't think of any games in my library that uses this or don't realize).

If I do expereince any problems with activation limits in the future, I'll be sure to post about it.
