Invalid Serial Number
If any developer or support personnell for Stardock are lurking on these forums, my newly-purchased copy of FE won't validate the serial number given on purchase from Stardock's website. Tried the one from there, and the one given in the email receipt, neither works.

Created a ticket on Stardock's support system (#QRO-333-70584), though I have little confidence in the skills of the team there. Another ticket on another product has gone over 4 months without resolution.

If anyone else is having the issue, try creating a ticket on Stardock's website, and/or posting here.

This is a reply from Derek Paxton, one of Stardock's support representatives:

There are 2 numbers you need. The first is the steam activation, which gets it installed and on your computer. The 2nd is the product key. To get that right click on Fallen Enchantress in your steam library and select the "View CD Key" option. That's the key you need to enter in the Stardock activation dialog.

I tested this myself, and the software will activate with the Steam CD key in place of the "serial number" the Stardock activation dialog is asking for. The Stardock serial number is *only* to activate the product on Steam now. This is of course, if you have purchased directly from Stardock and not from Steam.

To reiterate: the "serial number" you get from Stardock when you purchase from them is actually the "steam activation number" to get the product into your Steam library and downloading. The "steam CD key" is the number you get from the Steam library by right-clicking on FE and choosing the CD Key entry, which then goes into Stardock's activation dialog after launching the game.

Very confusing - even some of the Stardock regulars didn't understand how to get FE activated now. It has been suggested to them that they make the interface clearer - for now word of mouth will have to help people with getting past it.

I think this is due to a recent change. Previously, purchasing directly from Stardock, did NOT give you a Steam key. Think that changed in the last day or two, going by some of the comments both here and on the stardock boards.

Yes, it is a recent change. Most of the regulars on the Stardock forums were confused about it as well. It is unfortunate that the terminology used for the different keys is backwards.

Thanks. This seems like it defeats the ease that Steam sells its self on. Buy it on steam, never worry about serials. Not.
