Poorly designed Civ rip.
I would have actually enjoyed this game, if it weren't so poorly designed. Aside from the CONSTANT crashes in the late stages of a game, the AI is just awful on ANY setting. Either way too easy or way too hard.

I love having a group of AI guardian statues come prancing into my territory early on in the game and start razing my cities with no way to defense against it. Think of this as the equivalent of having a barbarian rifleman come raid your capital in 1000 BC while you have a spearman stationed there.......seriously?

As much as I tried to like this game, I think I am going to pass on the recently released standalone expansion. This version was frustrating enough; I don't think I could deal with a second helping of it.

I have a similiar Problem. Playing nicely and dominating around and than suddenly a random Event comes and Epic / deadly monsters ♥♥♥♥ up my cities.

Some parts are poorly designed, yes. In other aspects, it beats Civ. Currently, I*m favoring playing this over Civ, and that speaks volumes for the quality of this game.

You can hold off almost any monster army by stationing enough militia or other simple units in a city. Yes, unlike Civ this game's world is a dangerous and challenging place and has 1000 BC barbarian riflemen - deal with it!

Mostly what I hear is not "random events" but rather tough monsters pushed off "Feature" early, too early for you to handle.

Like Golems/Guardians from "Junkyard" feature. Any will come if you push them off thier "home" with the control area, either from Outposts or Cities expanding. Yours or the other players.

Common "blame the game" kind of trouble your just not ready for until you "know" about them.

One guy up and quit because "Lord of the Flame" came and ate all his troops.
They do not "just come". The little flame snakes, from him, will wander. He will stay put until he is "pushed off" by a control field.

..stand in front of a truck ..plan on getting run over, unless you can kill the truck. :)

If you left your troops in the Burned Lands and were surprised you got attacked, that's your fault.

Once I find the burned lands, I never go in there without ice units. Same for the Frozen Lands. Gotta be prepapred. If you're not prepped, once you see it, turn around.

I have played the game for over 40 hours and know all its nuances. I stand by my comments.

Having a drake army or anything comparable rampage through your building process of the game is a design flaw. Not to mention the incessant crashing which stops you from enjoying the game at all.

Multiplayer would have been a nice distraction from the AI issues this game is plagued with, but god knows it would just crash long before you could complete a game.

I am shocked at the quality of this particular title... Mostly because I consider Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion one of the best games I have ever played.

Shocked at the quality of a title you invested 40+ hours into. Yeah, I think that says it all. Game may be crippled with lots of bugs, but it's still pretty fun, no?

Put militia in your cities. Problem solved.

Like I said, 2,ooo+ hours. ..across THREE screens, each bigger than HD. 6 feet across.
Your system is messed up, I'm having a ball!

I got lots of hours in Sins' too, love it alot and I rate it highly but there are lots of similarly good games around. I don't mean " like Sins' ", just other kinds.

Sins' does not let you edit your troups or create unique factions of your own that the game will also play if your not currently using them/it.

Most games done and gone in 40hrs. In FE ..you've seen squat and have not got a clue of whats happening. Prolly' got it on Easy mode with cheats.

Experienced players can SEE you have no clue by your comments. And you tying to make'em sound like you actualy know something.

Just trash blowing in the wind.

..you couldn't handle FE on challenging or above, with more than 8 players on a large map.

bah.. I'm on a break from the Anthys map with 10players, after trashin Torax, and its over 40hrs and I think I got quite a few more bosses to go. I haven't seen 1/2 the map yet either. I just noticed its practicaly two continents.....

uh, 2,ooo.

Just ran Anthys recently, and yes found boat. Kinda cool. put it on "Explore" but it was takin too long so did it manual ..and found continents! And some other "ports" taken. :(
Still 2 out exploring..

..with the death of TirelessMarch I shifted to Air/CloudWalking and boat becomes moot, except to deliver a Pio' for making a remote CloudWalking "Port".

Boat is faster than Air Ele' for dropping Pio's remote, 8 steps vs 2. Air Ele's are a tad hard to "get" if you don't have Binding Trait. (Uxen Witch - Thrall)

I tend to make a convoy with decent Army, Roadie and couple simple units with a Pio' or two. Then make a wee base to work from. Obviously for the real big maps, large/10player+ and now Huge maps. (Mod "Larger Maps" = Huge)

I try not to look to closely at Map icon/pix as it lessens the explore "surprise" alot. I fact I would have tacticle "plan" before map even loaded.

So was hugely surprised at Anthys.. and still lots to go yet. My own big maps are coming along nicely but with alot less water. And it has given me some ideas for them.
In simple comparison mine are way richer on resources and it way thin. The roads I thot were nice touch but actualy -required- w/o TM. Never thot to put them in mine, until now.

lol @ angry fist shaking fanboi. Blowing random comments out your ♥♥♥ about my system, gaming style or the fact you have wasted 2000 hours of your life getting fat in a chair isn't really my thing. So, I will end this conversation with the folloiwing:

Game crashes and is not that good; has nothing to do with my system.

Tried the expansion and its wonderfully more stable. Havent crashed on it yet. Also a bit more balanced, with the inclusion of swarm / flanking bonus and an actual army at your command at the start.

You have no idea whats up with me and mine. I was fishing, you give us no clue of whats up with your system or where its at. Misunderstand what the game is doing and call it problem. Yup a problem, yours.

..lots and lots of adventures ahead.

Suggest you up the map size, goodies and #players a bit at a time. Peek at "Design" and just tweek units a little bit to start. (Its off of Training at the bottom or Manage at the top)
