Early game end?

I found and defeated General Skayd's Army in Scenario 6. I thought I could pick something up from his fort, but there was nothing there each time I moved into that tile. Eventually, I spent a full turn in that tile, and the game gave me a very brief, chaotic cutscene and came to an abrupt end. It helps that I bypassed Kushar entirely at the beginning of the scenario. What the heck happened? Has anybody else run into this, and is this supposed to happen? Is it an Easter Egg? If so, can anybody tell me the triggerpoints that led up to it? (That way I can compare my experience with others', and figure out WTF.

P.S., I am so enjoying the game that I don't want the scenario storyline to end yet. Please tell me this wasn't supposed to happen.
