Replayability?
I was interested in getting this game, but was wondering if it had any replayability; I was wondering how many hours of gameplay there is.

Thanks in advance.

I've been playing this game for 4 hours and I'm nearly at the end (hard mode, no hints). However, the last few puzzles seem to be quite tricky, so the number can even double from that before I actually reach the end.

Of course, as with all puzzle games, one's playtime can vary greatly depending on how good they are at coming up with the solutions and how much they'll use the hints (in-game or online).

Also something common with all puzzle games is that there isn't really much replayability. Once you know the solutions, there's little point in going through the puzzles again. We'd need some extra content, like a level editor and communit made levels to extend the playtime.

I would consider a game like Puzzle Quest to have replayability.

But thank you for your response.

We're talking a bit different kind of puzzle here. Puzzle Quest and such can randomize their puzzles and as such the "solutions" vary as well.
The puzzles in this game can be compared riddles, for example. There are no random elements in them and as such the solutions don't change.

Altough, Puzzle Quest had that kind of puzzles in it as well, didn't it? There was a set pattern of gems and you had to find the right order of removing them to clear the board.
Yes. I suspect we are thinking of a different type of play mechanics.

There were certain areas where you would have a set of static blocks and you would have to make them all disappear (this was PQs version of learning a new spell).
Puzzle Quest is technically Bejeweled. It's like saying this game has a lower replayability because it's not Tetris.
I don't understand your point.

The actual gameplay portion of PQ is different every time you play...which is what I want. Apparently this game does not change from one playthrough to the next.

I think what we're mostly trying to make sure you understand is that this game is a completely different experience from the likes of Puzzle Quest, Bejewled or Tetris, even tough the word "puzzle" is used to describe all of these.

The before mentioned games need high replayability since the intensity of their puzzles is rather low. You're rarely asked for more than spotting a certain pattern and maybe figuring out, how to make it into a combo. The puzzles are rather repeptitive, but the mechanics are designed around this repeteviness, making the over all experience enjoyable.

This game, however, sacrifices the replayability to ramp up the intensity of the of its puzzles. You are given a few tools and put in front of a number of carefully designed setups for you to figure out, how to reach your goal with these tools. While certain elements of these problems and solutions may be used repeatedly, no two puzzles are the same and you're always forced to figure out something new to progress. In the last puzzles, there were a couple that took me about an hour to figure out each.

I got that the games use different mechanics.I think that was implicit in my response to you (thank you for replying again), namely, I was looking for a game that I could come back to more than once. PQ allows me to do that...this game does not.

I thought my question was aksed and answered. They are different games. One has more depth (I won't agrue that Gateways doesn't, because despite not having played it, I can see from the posts that it is quite challenging) and one allows me to come back to it again even after having beaten it.

So again, I do not understand Zhu's post where he points out to me that PQ is like Bejeweled. I already knew that, so I am trying to understand what else he was trying to say.

I hope this post does not come off as snarky, because I am not trying to be; I just don't understand his point.
Sorry, you are right. For there to be the replayability that you are looking for, there needs to be a certain random factor to it. This game seems fairly deterministic, which means it does not have what you are looking for.

No problem my friend. :). I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Have a great day.

I find it easier to describe bejewel and tetris as just action puzzles, or just puzzles at a push. But I tend to lable games like Braid, this game and portal as Logic puzzles,

Story modes of the these Logic Puzzles, don't have any replay value by their nature, due to what has been pointed out, once you know the solution there is not much point doing that logic puzzle again.

That saying if you like logic puzzles, this most likely won't be a problem, of course having the option for user created content is always a benefit, Toki Tori is a great example of this.
