Reasonable standpoint, the XNA Framework demands a relatively high-tier card to even attempt to run the software, so make sure you test it before buying full-price.

But I'd say there's no way you can go wrong with getting the game from the groupees bundle on the long run, because I love the hell out of its final puzzles. I should honestly make a few more... XD

Actually some XNA games ran reasonably well, including Shuggy from the same devs.

It's all the post-processing / filters that Gateways doesn't give you an option to disable.

It was similar with Wake and Lynnie Devitsy (sp?) - the original versions ran great on the laptop, the "improved" versions unplayable.
XNA can be set to two different 'profiles'. The reach profile (which Shuggy uses) gives you access to a more restricted set of features but runs on older hardware. Gateways uses the hidef profile (primarily because of the lighting used in the game) which rules out some older machines.

There is an option to disable some of the post processing effects in Gateways, it's in the options menu. If the game works but runs slowly then you can disable these effects to see if that improves the speed.

The effect on the title screen seems to cause issues for some machines as well. Hold down shift while the game is starting up to disable it.
