Need to edit movement speed. Any help with .scr files?
My laptop is a bit old for Riptide, but it'll run well enough. The only problem is that I move and jump in slow mo. When I googled the issue I saw someone had edited the .scr file to increase movement speed, and I would like to try this out. However I have no idea how to open the file; windows can't do anything with it and when I right click there's no "open with" option. Can someone give me some tips for opening the file?

Are there any alternative methods of increasing my movement speed in the game?

open the notepad, click on file > open, then find the .scr file

Where did you find that .scr file? I definitely don't have a Data file in the out file in the documents directory.

You need to make the data directory yourself. (C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\Riptide\out\Data or Documents\Riptide\out\Data, whichever is easier for you to get to. They are the same place, just two ways to get there.)

To get the specific scr file, open the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\diriptide\DI\Data0.pak with any program that can open zip files. Go to the Data\Skills directory in there, and extract the default_levels.xml file and put it in the data directory. Using notepad or any other text editor, open it up and you can modify a number of parameters.

There are a lot of movement speed variables. I think the ones that probably will help the most are in the first group:
<prop n="MoveForwardMinSpeed" v="10"/>
<prop n="MoveForwardMaxSpeed" v="350"/>
<prop n="MoveBackwardMinSpeed" v="10"/>
<prop n="MoveBackwardMaxSpeed" v="250"/>
<prop n="MoveStrafeMinSpeed" v="10"/>
<prop n="MoveStrafeMaxSpeed" v="250"/>
<prop n="MoveSprintSpeed" v="550"/>
<prop n="MoveSprintStaminaConsumption" v="0.05"/>
<prop n="MoveAcceleration" v="700"/>
<prop n="MoveDeceleration" v="1000"/>

The other variables are not as widely used and may affect your actons in combat (aimcrouch, etc.) Also, I wouldn't set them too high, especially the MinSpeed entries, or you may have trouble with fine control such as trying to pick something small up from the ground.

Thanks for that... I downloaded the Helper tool from the sticky and changed the FOV and that made it much better... think it was just the FOV of 60 that was unbearable.

There are two possibilities then. Either you don't have it in the right place, or there is a syntax error. Try looking at the most recent file in the C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\Riptide\out\logs directory for errors, or just open the file again and make sure that the lines you edited are complete (usually the "/> at the end of the line is the problem.)
