Alcohol and auto equipping
Loving the game now that I can actually play it, but I'm having a few issues.

I play as Logan, and alcohol is my main source of health. I've noticed that I can't equip it anymore. There's an option to equip it when I go to my menu, but it's always greyed out. Now I can understand hotkeying alcohol to be removed in the interest of balance, since Logan is more or less unstoppable while drunk, but I just want to know if that's actually what happened or if my game is bugged somehow?

Secondly, I carry around a stack of 30 Throwing Knives to use as main weapons. But I'm noticing that whenever I go to loot another weapon off the ground there's more or less a 50/50 chance that I'll auto equip the item when I pick it up. Is there any way to fix this? I'm not seeing an option in the controls anywhere.

Lastly, Logan's Economic Throw skill used to transfer critical effects (Shocking, Poison, Fire, etc.) to zombies around the one that I actually threw at. Has it been nerfed to only damage the other zombies?

I would also like to know if there is a way to turn off auto equip it is so annoying having to load the inventory to unequip a new item just so you can use the one you wanted to use in the first place especially as I tend to pick up as many items lying around as possible. Also changing to an item like a molotov in the heat of a battle and finding its been replaced with a flimsy hammer really ticks me off

So, it seems some of the problems of the original game passed on to the sequel. I don't have Riptide, but in the original the problem was that the time you need to hold the key to auto-equip items is way too short, and the solution was to change a variable in one of the system files to increase the time. I guess there's a similar problem this time around, so if there's any dev reading this: it may be a good idea to give a higher value in a future patch.

There's an option in Dead Island: Riptide Helper to increase the delay to 1.2 seconds (from 0.1). Check the sticky at the top of the forum. :)

look at the sticky's, open the one for riptide helper, download riptide helper, click the option for making "hold to equip" work properly. its under keyboard options. as is sepearting mousewheel from weapon selection.

as for the other part of the OP i cant answer that i use alcohol for molotovs. i'm glad it never got me drunk before the helper was released which may have been why it cant be hotkeyed. it used to get everyone drunk when they tried healing

People accidentally using alcohol is their own problem, but I began playing a new Logan in co-op where I finally got points in his alcohol related skills (going further into the survival tree earlier this time around) and I discover that I have to go into my inventory, fumble my mouse to that unresponsive << arrow to get to Miscellaneous items, click on the stack of alcohol I want to use, then go down to click use just to use one.

I had decided that, playing co-op, I could still buy a butt-ton of medkits for my allies while using alcohol for myself. However, since I use nearly all of them quickly and then find myself at critical health swarmed by the dang things, I literally cannot navigate the menus fast enough to drink an alcohol so I can survive; sure, it works playing solo because the game pauses, but it's God dang futile in co-op. THIS CHANGE TO ALCOHOL HAS GOTTEN ME KILLED AND RUINED MY GAME EXPERIENCE AS LOGAN SEVERAL TIMES.

If this was meant to pander to the people who cried about accidentially using alcohol (which I never did once since DI's release, while only starting to play Logan a month or two ago), why punish Logans? Why make one of his strongest traits a physical impossibility and tus unusable in online combat? I tried storing all of my medkits to see if the hotkey could be used for alcohol, and it can't. There isn't any way to rebind anything for it. It's God dang infuriating.

Because of course accidentally holding the key for 0.1 seconds instead of 1 frame tapping it's their own problem.

That's equipping, and, no, I will agree that's not their fault. I accidentally equipped items relatively infrequently, but often enough. However, people actually using the alcohol is the consequence of not paying attention and, therefore, their own problem, while this 'fix' to appease them (if this is indeed a fix for that issue, and was not changed in regard to this) has caused alcohol to be entirely unequippable altogether -- not even manually. It punishes players who play better and more carefully. It essentially conveys what problems can be caused by being careless in a zombie apocolypse.

Well I was able to fix the auto equipping issue by using the Dead Island Helper thing. Still unable to equip alcohol though

well that seems ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, why not just change this or simply get rid of the character, how can this character ever be played multiplayer and be effective.

Compared to DI, in Riptide alcohol effect are cumulative and lasts much longer every next bootle you drink. This is not like in DI where you could take 6 bootles in a row then lose balance to floor, get blurry vision and occasionaly fall down again. No matter what character you playing on it's cool in terms of stamina regen/lower depleted and toughness to enemy attacks, also nice bous evading incoming hits in drunken master style. As long as you are in inventory menu, effect of your drank alcohol is preserved and won't wear off, it expires only on game screen, in game, not while you are in busy state selecting another dose. ;-)
