What's the point of side quests?
Seriously, some of the objectives for the side quests require you to travel so out of the way and the rewards aren't even that great. Heck some of the side quests aren't even completable until you progress the main quest pretty late, and by the time you solve that particular side quest, the amount of traveling to turn over the quest and the puny reward just isn't worth it.

Not bashing, I love this game (82 hours on Dead Island and 24 hours on Riptide) but I'm trying to justify the incentive to do the side quests and what other people think about it.

It also seems to me that compared to DI, Riptide has like significant more amount of side quest NPCs spreaded all over the map. It's insane. :P

(I know, I know, "just don't do them"... and that's exactly what's going to happen. :P I got burned out trying to save everyone already. I've reached the fort in the main quest, about to head into the Quarantine Zone... I'm not gonna bother anymore, I just want to reach the end-game)

This. You're not doing it for the reward. You're doing for the materials and the chance to beat zombies to death!

I pick up every side quest and then do them "when I get to them". There's no law stating you have to pick up a side quest and then get to it immediately. In fact I think the idea in DI:R is to pick up side quests and complete them concurrently with other quests. While the loot rewards aren't all that great the real reward is the XP. I just got through playing about 2 hours of the game and by completeting multiple side-quests that were more or less grouped together on the map I leveled up about 5 times.

Well I just feel that even gaining experience/levels has little point as the zombies scale in level the same way as you do so I don't really feel any stronger... :S

Huh, I actually didn't notice that.
