What's this game like?
Is it linear questing like WoW? Or mainly grinding?

Is the loot system randomized like Diablo or a lot more simplistic?

Can you solo your way up or is there a ton of group only content?

Yes.
It is linear if you don't read the story lines.

There is a lot of grinding.

The loot system is randomized, but recently, mobs will mostly drop things for your class types (warrior = warrior drops, mage = mage drops, etc).

Most people just solo their way to max level and then move on, but if you want to be the type of player that likes the community, you can take your time to do group work to level yourself as well.

Well, do you have to quest to level fast or do you just grind and level just as fast?

You level faster from quests

You do not level faster from quests unless you play the new job Zero. The fastest way to level is through grinding. Quest give little EXP and are not recommended unless you are doing Party Quests.

The game is extremely linear and can be completed solo until Level 170. Group Content in MapleStory is non existent at this point. The game emphasizes on solo experience with minimal group interactions. The only time you'll be in a group is when you train at Lv 60 to 100 then Lv 170.

Be warned that is a grindfest with a huge P2W market.

Nexon, should have known better. UGH! Dragon Nest has the same issues, very bad cash shop.

Maybe after level 70, Koottaa, but if you do all the quests Tot recommends, you can reach level 30 in an afternoon and level 70 in a couple days.

No questing is bad Unless ur playing the new boring class zero, If u wanna level any other class i can give u great spots And Only do tots from 46-50 It gets u to level 50 in less than 1min, To train any class first do the beginning quest is 1-10, During 10-19 do green mushies then do 19-30 all at golems it ranges from golem depending on ur level range, 30-40 u can just CDS 40-50 u can do Scarecrows, 50-60 u can do Scorpions at ariant, 60-89 or so or 100 u can do droids, 100-140 u do MPE Which is monster park extreme, then 140-165 u can do either evolve world or dipq, Anyways if u plan to play ms ill be happy to help I am in the windia Server add me on steam ill help cuz its fun :D

This is true, you don't level faster from quests, but it is still recommended to do quests here and there. However, I do not know which world you play in, but tons of people everyday go to the party quest area's to hang out and do group content in Broa. I, however, choose not to because it is faster to level alone until you're 100. I like to have a lot of friends with me though because it's boring if you don't have anyone to talk to.

In Broa, I'd rank myself above average, maybe even one of the best, and I have not spent a single dollar on this game, nor have I bought anything from the Free Market, it was all hard work and great teamwork by me and my friends.

I don't find Zero boring, other than the fact that you get less than a level per story line quest. The story line keeps it interesting for me. Though I don't agree with some of your training spots, it seems pretty good to me.

Questing in most mmos are almost identical its a matter of how they are dressed up. Yes there are kill X get Y. Maple dresses it up with a story thats appealing and interesting.
Yes you can grind if you choose. Its not like its early years where content was limited. The XP level gain has been reworked. I've been playing on and off since launch. I just restarted my character on sunday and I am already level 105. I've soloed all of the content besides a Party Quest I joined and Monster Hunt area.

Is the loot system randomized like Diablo or a lot more simplistic? The loot use to be example a shield drops. It's max stats are 10 def 4str. When you get that item it could roll less. You could get it and it could be a 10def 3str. Obviously you want the item that has the max stats to use or sell. Very similar to Diablo where you are farming to get the items.
They have added in a hidden potential mechanic that may be on the item when it drops. You can pay in game currency to identify them. Doing so rolls new random stats on the gear. So maybe you got that same shield that was 10 def and 3 str. Now it has hidden potential and now has a chance to have more stats.

Can you solo your way up or is there a ton of group only content? Yes you can solo a lot. Group play comes in more in the level 100s

Its not linear in a sense. You can follow the main story for your character but you can also do lots of other minor quests that can take your back and forth between places.

I think both. It has changed alot though.....

you can solo. I do solo even at the higher levels. But group content is there but it doesnt play a major part.
