So are JA GOLD and JA WILDFIRE the same campaigns? or completely different games both to be enjoyed seperately?

Think of Wildfire as pretty much the same game, but overhauled. It's a bit hardcore!

Start with JA2 Vanilla, it's awesome. When you are ready, download the v1.13 fan patch and play some more. Then try Wildfire.

Don't forget Jagged Alliance on GOG.com

Starter MERC's:
- Fox
- Grunty
- Grizzly
- Steroid

Fox will often mention Steroid gives her the creeps. However, she will stay because of Grizzly. Should offer some fun dialogue and situations :) Oh, and Fox is ambidextrous.

Have fun! Die often.

Wildfire might be a little more difficult.
- Mercs are slightly different, like in all versions (ja2 gold, unfinished business & wildfire).
- The map is almost the same except for unfinished business.
- More guns in wildfire, Improved A.I in Wildfire. You gotta know that this game is far from being easy, BUT, you may find quickly how to trap the A.I in JA2 gold.
- Several bugs have been fixed in Wildfire so i'll definitely go for this one, even if you're beginner you can still adjust the difficulty
- One more thing, Wildfire allow for the selection of more mercs per group which is a really big plus when managing several mercs in terms of micro management

JA 2 Gold + 1.13 Mod

I started off on Jagged Alliance 2 Gold and the 1.13 Mod. However, on bundle stars they have the newer versions (Back in Action and Crossfire) for $5. It includes other games as well, but those are the only JA related games.

Exactly this. Many don't know, but the original JA2 even in the final Gold version 1.12 was never exactly finished (due financial issues of Sir-Tech, they released it earlier as planned) It contains multiple items without any purprose and also things like changing weather are included in the source code, but they aren't present in the game itself.
All those where fixed in 1.13 and also a insane ammount of new guns is added, plus support for better resolutions. Original supported only 640x480.

But skip Wildfire if you can. It has overly complex map design and last I tried was buggy as hell. Plus playing it on easy is like playing JA2 somewhere between normal and hard.

why is everyone saying that WF is hardcore? I found unfinished bussines way more difficult than WF, i am playing o realistic, NOT many weapons, experienced, without ironman mode, the game is harder at the begining due to tight budget and alrdy harder fights, but still
