Play Zeno Clash 1 (or try the demo), its good and fun and if u like it consider buying ZC2 too. If you dont like it its just 2€ for a nice developer team (and steam).

I'd have to cast my vote for the first as well. The second was by no means a disappointment, but like most sequels, it was pretty much impossible for it to have the same kind of impact as the first.

The story pushed forward in a reasonable manner. At worst, it explained a bit too much about the golems, but overall it was fairly satisfying. There exist probably just as many questions I'd like answered as there were at the end of the first game.

Changes to the combat mechanics were a bit hit and miss. It was neat to have permanent weapons/tools, but they were an unfortunate combination of powerful and inconvenient. That meant that it was in your best interest to use them, but the cooldowns were just long enough that you'd find yourself tediously counting down the seconds until they could be used again, but just short enough that it didn't make much sense to switch back to hand to hand until you were done with that weapon/tool.

The world expanded nicely in the second, filling in the blanks of the first. This aspect was better fleshed out in the ZC2 for sure.

The only (arguable) bug I experienced in ZC2 was that the hit detection on the [forward + left mouse + right mouse] special was just awful, hitting less than half the time despite being perfectly lined up. Other than that, it was a very smooth experience, if only because I stuck to single player. Comparatively, I don't recall any bugs in the first.

This is turning into a bit of a ramble, so I'm gonna get to my bottom line - the reason I prefer the first (besides the unfortunate burden that ZC2 carries, simple by being a sequel), is that it kind of lost sight of the hand-to-hand combat aspect. I understand that they had to shake things up a bit, but the fighting made the first one feel so unique and it's just not there anymore. I fought maybe two battles where I even felt the need to dodge, counter, or use advanced combos. Weapons like the Sun-Moon gauntlet mean that groups are no longer very intimidating, and no one-on-one fight ever came close to the intensity of the assassin fight from the first.

That said, I don't want to end on a bad note. Both are awesome. I preordered ZC2 on day one and I never regretted that for a second, but the first is still the quintessential experience.

Both

You should get both, but I just ended the first game, and I starting the second one, and the story does not fit pretty well, with the ending of the first game or any other event from the first in a proper way. Also there are many changes done, do to the change of game engine that don't feel well or play right on the second game, I mean I like all the new combos, but the graphics and animation are not very well done on this one.

So I guess you think it is still a good game, otherwise it sounds a little bit not logical, because you say get both (but ZC2 doesnt feel right).
No offence!

Greets!

Because on his own ZC2 is a good game in general, but compare to the predecessor is not better atleast on my point of view from story and game itself. Look, both are very cheap right now, play them and you know the different, but if you can only buy one, buy any of the two, and don't play the other or you will have a feeling of dissapointment.

Thats exactly how i felt about the story, and the combat was just made unbalanced and easy from a few things (the chain)... its still fun but i NEVER needed to block or dodge in ZC2 and could just spam the uppercut to kick combo forever.

Overall ZC has better combat and a more mysterious story, but the enviroments from ZC2 are amazing and its still very fun... play 1 then 2 imo

Whoa, normaly I don't give a damn about preaching morals and stuff, but stealing Zeno Clash, when it's at such a low price in store, isn't right!!

Zeno Clash is a mind blowing experience and worthwhile the money anytime!
You should have bought Zeno Clash first. It makes the better first impression if you are new to this franchise and if it blew your mind on the way throught the game you will WANT to buy Zeno Clash 2

"...didn't have time to play even 25% of that list. "
Thats not very rational...?

Torrenting a 2€-game from a small nice indie-developer is also very questional IMO. No offence!
