As a big fan of adventure games, I've been looking for a good one on Steam. I was horribly disappointed by the animations of the Monkey Island HD editions and the unintuitive controls or inability to skip narrated dialog. I was very frustarted at the lunacy of Deponia - puzzles so bizarre that solving them was a game of exhaustive trial and error (or basically dependent upon using a guide).
Unwritten Tales sits somewhere between the two. It's not perfect, but it is good enough to enjoy. The voice acting is good, the scenes look good and the puzzles are fairly logical. There's good features like double clicking an exit to skip the walking to it - so there is not much time spent waiting for characters to traverse scenes (and generally there's not absurdly long routes in any particular scene or area unlike Deponia). You can show all the hotspots by pressing the space bar, which is needed because a few of the things you need are pretty small or obscured. It plays well overall.
It does have issues. I've run into a few glitches already. Some of the models look either dated or amateur - especially when animated. A lot of the animations are a bit off, but nothing so bad that it ruins the experience (unlike the Monkey Island HD games). Depsite these, I'm enjoying it so far.
