Wow, how have I not played this until now? Not sure if it's referred to as a "cult classic" but it should be! I haven't got one single bad thing to say about this. The puzzles were not obtuse, nor did they require random clicking to get the stars to align (levers all up/all lights green etc - there is one green light thingy, but it does make sense, I promise!). Well it's not random in most games I guess, but most of the time you can solve them by bowing to the gods of RNG.
Anyway, yes, the puzzles. Lovely. Also, unlike Daedalic, they help you by keeping your area of investigation quite small, so you can focus on the task at hand, and not wander lost in 10 different areas. You can enable visible hotspots which is nice. Best part is, if you look at them and they're not usable, they'll disappear. No clutter! :)
And ohhh, the humor! You have zombie love, time travelling, LOTR references, RPG references (dating back to the text-based ones even), making fun of the ridiculous music puzzles we've all experienced and so much more! (like vegetarian dragons, which are always a nice touch)
Characters are all nice, and the good news is you'll play 4 of them! Voice acting is amazing, artwork is beautiful - you'll love MacGuffin's house in the woods!
This is a MUST - and it won't be even a tiny bit frustrating, which is so rare in adventure games.
