The last boss...
...seems to have an egregiously huge amount of health. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a specific weapon you are supposed to use? I've spent several attempts trying to kill this thing and it will not die. Is this a bug? I refuse to believe that the designer of such an otherwise stellar game intentionally gave the thing such a disproportionately huge amount of health compared to everything else, which seems completely appropriate and fair. It's ridiculous. This one flaw is seriously ruining the game for me. Please, PLEASE tell me I'm just missing something.

i died prolly 300 times on this guy on normal. i had it in my head i could burn this guy down fast enough to keep up with health drops. after about 275 deaths and the more i tried he kept shifting phases drove me nuts. what you have to do is relize its a long fight and work heavily on survival and not so much on damage. after i switched to a long run fight mode and survival he hit me rarely i never fell below 4 bar's hp's and when he in fact died i was rather shocked it finally happened. seriously the hardest part of this fight once youlearn the tact of each phase is the tunnel he shoots fireballs down at you all other phases are easy with plenty of room to run even if your not shooting. (note) i only used gernade launcher when to much crap was in the way to blow it out of the way. rest of the time it was rifle/double rifle/ electric shock gun.
The last boss has an incredible amount of health, so never stop shooting while you dodge.
Did you know that those rockets that he fires offscreen can actually be redirected back at him if shot enough times? When he drops a mech suit instead of an enemy try to preserve it for as long as possible instead of trying to spam him with its gun (and remember: space shots rockets!).

When I was fighting him I did thinking to myself "this is taking too long", but in time I got better at avoiding his most difficult attacks and when I finally killed him it was absolutely exhilarating. One of the most satisfying boss fights in a very long time.

Sigh. Well I'm glad to see at least that I'm not just an idiot and having trouble with something that should be easy. It's really disappointing to see this problem in the game and I agree fully with GTH. Maybe the developer will patch the game and bring the last boss's health down to a rational level at some point.

Thanks for the tips guys, next time I give the big guy a try I'll focus on just trying to keep myself from getting hit, put on a pot of coffee and settle in for an all-nighter. Maybe I'll get him eventually.

I must say that without this (pretty horrible) flaw, the game is FANTASTIC. After I beat him once I may get to the point that I just play the thing for fun and *quit* when I hit the end boss.

He's very *cool*, but as was said, his coolness wears off fast when you literally have to spend half an hour only to have him finally kill you and have to start the entire fight (or the relevant bit anyway) over again.

Oh and the tip about turning the missiles all the way back toward him I didn't realize, SilentBugler, so I'm sure that will help.

Wish me luck. And patience.
I'm pretty sure you can only turn the yellow tipped missiles back towards him, not matter how hard I tried I could only deflect the red missiles to other parts of the level, but could easily deflect the yellow tipped missiles towards him for what I hope was MASSIVE DAMAGE

IIn the end if you do beat him it will be largely due to luck and circumstance.

not really luck just alot of time and really the only things that would kill me after you learn his patterns are the junk he drops in the arena if you dont shoot them off you can get pinned and killed rest of the fight is just very long could of easily have shortened it with out making it seem to easy by at least 1 rocket phase.
I've beaten the final boss a good 6 times now on normal. It really isn't that hard guys.
By the way i finished the game on normal in 6 hours. Yes the final boss is really hard at first, but if you are half way decent at dodging it really shouldn't take you more than an hour or two.
It is a FINAL boss people, did you realy expect it to be easy?

It took me 2 hours from the beginning of the game, on normal, to reach the last boss in my first play. You really feel like the last boss fight should take as long as the entire rest of the game combined? There's a huge difference between providing a challenge and something just being as hard as you can make it. An integral part of game design is creating an appropriate and fun difficulty curve.

Do I think it should be easy? Honestly I don't really care, as long as it's an interesting and fun experience and fits well with the rest of the game. As far as design and coolness factor, this boss absolutely does. As far as balance? It's one of the worst failures I've seen.

Of course that's just my opinion. If you like it, more power to you, I'm glad you enjoy it.

gets my vote for all time worst final boss of any game ever. Has anyone here beat it on normal in less than 15 - 20 hours?
Aww come on, I totally suck at Contra\Metal Slug, haven't played games of this kind in more than a year and even for me it took a couple of hours but no more than that.

As he is now it's a war of attrition that players don't expect from a difficulty level that would have been labeled "easy" in oldschool action titles.

I've completed three or four missile attack cycles before bringing him down. If we take that as a starting point maybe his health should be brought down so he can only complete two (one "easy" and one "hard").

I just beat the last boss and my total game time is 3 hours... so it can definitely be done in less than 15-20 hours lol

it's certainly not easy though but then again a game which is 3 hours long is more about replayability and highscore chasing, every time you replay the game you may do the same scenarios differently. In addition, the two keys to the final boss are constant pressure, if you can keep blaster or double rifle on him all the time then you can focus on dodging since your fire will be more accurate (though sometimes he doesn't bring up any crates and there is nothing you can do but shoot pistol) however if the boss was easier then people would be able to post great scores really easily and then it wouldn't be as much of an overall challenge

I also got my highest score just from the final phase of the boss fight so that should say something about the value they put into the fight itself
Nevertheless the last boss fight is too hard for the "usual" player. I tried it in Normal and Easy just about 20 times each and didn't get past the phase where his hands shoot the laser beams (where you have to jump on this fists to avoid the lasers).
This hard fight would may be fine if the whole game has such a high difficulty but its only the last fight. That's why you aren't prepared for this and you are quickly frustrated. Some medikits after each phase would be sufficient to make this a bit more fair without destroying the overall feeling. Maybe at least for the easy mode.
But if so much players aren't even capable of defeating him in easy mode, then this should be fixed somehow.

Ah, as to that particular segment:
You're probably doing that phase the hard way by trying to jump onto his fists from the ground, something that requires precise timing.

What you can do instead is make a dash to the platform-raising buttons. This still requires quick action, but I find that jumping on from platforms is the safer method.
dodge his attacks and shoot hes head and ull be fine. ull kill him eventualy
You can only shoot the rockets back at him in his second type of barrage, which is rarer than the first. The first starts with rockets coming in diagonally, the second two come straight down.

When avoiding the fist beams and jumping up to his fist where the further away fist's laser sometimes goes across screen, just be sure to NOT jump to early. That's the tendency, but you simply have to wait till the laser coming from beneath wouldn't allow you to stay there.

I -think- he leaves for a missile barrage when you do a certain amount of health, so if you're not getting enough crates, use weaker weapons till his breaks open enough containers.

When he comes back to the platform after a missile barrage, go to one side or the other and wait for him to show his electric fist attack thing, the one with like 5 red hitbox warnings. Then immediately run to the other side of the platform; there will be plenty of room.

Be very carefuly about falling off the edge, and don't stop attacking unless you really need your attention on something else. Also don't be afraid to pick up ammo or health even if it would waste some, as he really enjoys knocking ♥♥♥♥ off the platform.
I got to the boss in about 2h. Up until then the game was good. Now it's decent. Some of the Attacks (laser, Fist-Laser) and some combinations of attacks with certains amount of object on the platform makes the game slow down massivly for me and several times it occured that the inputs were still being taken although I already let go of the keys. It has nothing to do with skill to beat this boss if it slows down to 5fps. It gets so frustrating to loose only because of this ♥♥♥♥.

At this point you might think I have really poor PC. Well let's see:
AMD Phenom II X4 965
AMD ATi 5870.

This should be enough for some flash game but it does not seem like it.

Well guess I can never play it through unless it's get fixed.

BTW how far did I beat the boss?
He started shooting those orange homing missiles.

EDIT: Beat the Boss, finally.
I got the same slow down/input lag issues when I duck down behind an object in the first phase of the boss and try to shoot the grenade launcher. The cursor just gets crazy and everything concerned my inputs are delayed.

Beat the game on normale within 4 hours, where the endboss took me 1,5h.
Good ideas and decent game but def. needs some polishing/fixing.

I just beat him in one shot a few minutes ago. It just takes some getting used to. He's not overly hard unless you get @#%$ed over by a piece of debris in the wrong spot that makes it impossible to move. That's kind of @#$%ed up.
