What CA did right.
I thought to break the tedium and chorus of complaints, it would be good to reflect on the positives of Rome 2. The negatives are already well documented, so lets keep it technical.

So here's my good ones:

1) The top down, satellite view. Love that.
2) Limited armies. Now this has added an extra sttrategic dimension to entering new wars.
3) Expanded map. Im 170 truns in and havent taken half yet.
4) New and diverse units.
5) Diplomacy menu improved
6) Edits, quite useful
7) Music and audio are outstanding IMO.
8) Graphics are great (for me at least)

Yours?

The pronounciation of triarii.

Noooo i loved the old triariI!

And I agree they have done some stuff right, I love the huge map(but hate so many factions) if they had cut the faction numbers in half and made the 'main' factions more powerhouses with more land then it be perfect.
it would cut down turn times massivly and make the AI 'empires' of old be more of a challenge and fun to try destroy.

on top of what you mentioned theres a few things ive liked.

i think the province system is excellent, it could be improved perhaps, but i feel like it has increased the strategic planning element of your campaign strategy, it has preserved the detail of managing your empire, but has streamlined it to where you cna manage even large empire very quickly, ive found that my turns are going much faster, while still having the depth of previous games.

the naval and land battles being joined is absolutely great.

it could be improved in a few ways, but its a huge improvement.

the army stances, are a great improvement as well.

another thing that is greatly improved imo in battles is the immersion, the unit cam, the player controlled artillary, the animations and animation variety as well as things like soldiers speaking and reacting to events around them.

once the tech issues are sorted all of that will make for a really great immersive battle experience.

most things about hte game are improved imo, and a lot of the issues will be worked out, and some are easily fixable by mods if you prefer a different way.

the only major non fixable issue with the game imo is the lack of a family tree.

i think its sad that the launch issues may sour some people to the game because a few months from now, when things settle down, and people have gotten a feel for the game, and tweaked it to their preference with mods, the launch will just be a bad memory, and going forward fans will enjoy rome 2 for years to come, and i think will come to really like it.

No offense, but this thread is fairly dripping with desperation. :)

Almost everything that is in the game is good in principle. The problem is the stuff that isn't, or is but doesn't work.

Have to disagree with 2. Theres not more strat required, it just slows you down at some point, you get more money in, than you will ever spend. Without the limit you could get more troops out.

The audio quality.. really? Its easily the worst in the whole series. I mean its just awful. New and diverse units??? I've played 3 factions and you get - 1 meele cav, 1 skirm cav, 1 sword unit, 2 spear units, 3-4 archer units, and a bunch of the exact same ships just with different names and health values. 700units = levy freemen with different colours for all factions they're in....

Thank you SOOO much for a positive thread!

Mine are:
1) Visuals and sound ("Perioikáááái HOPLITEIS!", "SPAAARTANS!")
2) Interface generally (intuitive, fast, nice)
3) Diplomacy (unlike in TWR1, I really use it and feel like it works)
4) Global map (so nice!)
5) ...and many many more.

Thank OP for a well-meant thread and CA for a brilliant game. Keep it up!

Musics aren't the half of RTW imo. But the ''satellite view'' is a brilliant idea.

I am so glad that I'm not the only one that realized it was wrong in the first game. Talking to people about it made my ears bleed when they would say "TRIARIAE" >.>
