Sounds like a driver issue.

Can't stress this enough, make sure your drivers are up to date.

Do you using crossfire or SLI? if yes disable them. Iam Running multiGPU card so its perma crossfire but i can force it trough GPU settings to use just half of the card and that fix it for me.

From the research I have done I have 2 graphics cards that i believe are running crossfire, I have a lenovo z585 laptop with the amd a10 chipset with the amd radeon 7660 and 7600 dual graphics. How do i disable the crossfire and use the right half of the garphics?

Just right click on desktop, then click on AMD Catalyst control center (should be on the top) and there is games option ( i have it in my language so yours could be named differently) and under it its 3D aplication setting . Make a new profile for Rome II and then you should be able tweak your graphics card- like disable frame pacing, crossfire, and many other settings (only advanced users!!!) just for Rome II. The same thing you can do with other games if you are experiencing troubles in them.

Ok i am unable to set a new profile for any application but iwas able to disable the dual graphics options so it ran with just the apu? No black squares appeared but about 10 mins in game froze, i could move the mouse, and there was music but game picture frozen and froze the whole computer, couldnt alt tab or ctrl alt delete nothing had to hard press power button to reset the computer, so one problem fixed one to go lol

If you are unable set new profile, make sure you are setting the right path to your game and using the right exe file. Because what that basicaly do its- turning those options what you set on or off just when you run the listed exe file. Do not care about setting the right half of card- thats not your case- thats just for multiGPU graphics card like mine and its selecting the active half automaticaly btw.

ok so what settings am i supposed to disable then, just figured out how to set preferences for application now
DaweSMF Dec 2, 2013 @ 6:25am
Disable frame pacing and crossfire, everything else keep on default as i said its for advanced users who knows what all that ♥♥♥♥ means:-D. Later on there can be official profile but i dont think it is right now. But you can check that on the bottom should be line where you can list trough predefined profiles for many games.

You do realize hes talking about a laptop which you cant have crossfire (impossible) they have hybrid gpus meaning some of the latest gaming laptops have dual gpus for different purposes.

You may well need to disable one but you can switch to one or the other you cant use both at the same time so this isnt the problem. So the problem is either with drivers or your laptop just isnt capable of running it (most laptops cant).

Note i have a extremely top end rig and even i have crashes which results in a hard reset which only ever happens with rome 2. Any other game i have no problems with. Theres been many patches since release but its far from a state i would consider acceptable especially since ever iteration of game you improve upon and should learn their mistakes.

I beg to differ my laptop has options for the gpu and apu, I have a crossfireX drop down with which i have options for
disabled
default mode
afr friendly
optomize 1:1
use amd defined profile

Also with regards to my laptop "just not being able to run it" my computer is more than powerful enough to run this at recommended settings on canyourunit.com.

So if you have nothing better to do than critisize ppl trying to help or hijacking my post so you can rant about the dev then dont

DaweSMF Dec 2, 2013 @ 7:23am
I dont think he want to critisize dude, he just tell me laptops are not able run crossfire- which i actually dont know because i never own any. I allso think your laptop have enough power to run it. Just take in mind i have really powerfull rig so even half of power its enough to run it smoothly. So try lower your graphical options because its possible some part of your laptop cannot handle such amount of effects and simply stop working properly.
