SALE almost over. Should I buy this game or should I buy Shogun 2 instead?
With so many negative reviews and many people saying not to buy this game BUT with many players playing this game. I'm starting to wonder if those who said not to buy this game played the latest patch or many are playing because of the "free" DLC not because the game is good?

Why should I choose Shogun 2 over Rome or vice versa? What does the other game have that the other one doesn't have? Which is worth it?

Please give an honest answer/opinion.

Shogun 2 is better more fun value better multiplayer better developed. Rome 2 has too many problems

At the price it's at, I would say get it, while the AI is still not up to scratch, the multiplayer is still loads of fun and the developers are constantly working to improve the game with patches. So i would recommend getting it, but only at this price or lower. Rome 2 also has alot more unit and faction variety while shogun 2 has japanese/samurai based units.

I have enjoyed both games, having put about 120 hours into Shogun 2 and 70 in Rome 2. They are both really fun, but each have their downfalls.

My main complaint with Shogun is the repetition. Every faction is basically the same. Everyone has the exact same units and it kind of gets boring after a while, because I feel like the map is so small and the towns are so close together that it's just siege battle after siege battle. When I used to play Shogun, I remember getting annoying at how whenever I tried to fight someone in the field, they would just retreat to their town, and another siege battle was fought. The sieges are rather uneventful, as if you don't have mangonels it's just a slaughter for both sides as your men get wrecked climbing the walls or burning the gates. All in all though, I don't regret buying it. It's a ton of fun to play and I'll probably go back to it some time.

Rome also has its drawbacks. My only complaints are some minor glitches here and there. I don't really notice any major bugs that people whine about, but whatever. Besides that, I feel like Rome 2 is missing something that the other games had. I don't know what it is, it just feels empty or as if there is no depth. It's still a ton of fun, and I have yet to actually beat a game or get very far in general. I'd say for 50% off, you should do it.

Rome 2, Shogun is still a fail while Rome2 is years ahead in gameplay, visuals, and depth

Run with your 'Gut feeling', as there is little point in asking others opinions, as this will only confuse you.

radious battle mod and the unit packs

Shogun is a finished game and a better game. Rome 2 is still being patched up and can corrupt previous saved games. The choice is obvious!

LOL ! .. Get the game up and running first, before even thinking about 'Mods'. remember to verify the game cache once loaded.

This!! Be very wary when using overhaul mods such as Radious and DEI. These are the mods that seem to cause most problems when a patch is released(and there's at least one more major to come in not to distant future), they'll corrupt your save games and possibly interfere with launching. Not because they're bad mods, they're just the most complex and take the author longer to update so more likey to cause conflicts.
btw - welcome to the club
I had gotten the game when it came out, and ended up getting a refund.
Even if all the unacceptable bugs and glitches, were gone,
the game on its own, the AI, the units, the campaign, etc, is just horrible.
Get Shogun 2, anyone that says get Rome 2 doesn't want to admit they wasted money on it most likely, as far as I can see. The game is still having problems it seems also.

Huh? I enjoy it so no need to "admit" I wasted money. Couldn't even play it until patch 5 and the patching since 7 has really turned a corner. Many players are trying it again now and see it's much better than it was. Damn, even the most vehement of "haters" have started saying its becoming the game it should have been at release. Yeah, the games still got some problems but at this price, its now worth a punt
Edit - btw, I don't disagree with the get S2 advice!!

the game is the most poorly optimised crap ive ever played. Stay well away as i should of done, though i was drawn in by the big discount the game is still not worth it in the slightest. Absolute Bollocks.

hello guys! I'm back. It's been 2 weeks already and i'm starting to hate this game because i'm having issue with my units morale and enemy AI just waiting for me to attack and not advancing when i'm defending.
