I like it and personally find it a great improvement on the vanilla version. :)
I learned to mod just to prevent encounters with level 10 AI agents. Due to the community's complain that the agents/generals die before they get to level 10. I learned to mod the xp to higher level. So your army don't have to be unmoving and dying from poisn.
Or get the no agent mod.
Or the no local tradition mod where you can convert the province to your culture to prevent unhappines.
Or no civil wars mod. Since now multiple civil wars can happen. I got it so I can play without worry about civil war.
These are just some simple mods I use, except the no agent mod, since I modded myself for that "problem".
The research trees and unit upgrades I personally think are a million times better. The extra factions and units are brilliant and more historically accurate (note I said more, not 100% accurate) It does however emphasize proper supply lines and management of armies, so if you over extend and you get cut off..... you're not going to have a good time. But that's the kind of realism I enjoy
