Waiting For Expansion Now.
Okay, so this patch was the one I was waiting for since almost patch 5 or 6, which was when the major bugs were largely and finally put to rest.

But I am having difficulty getting back into this game because I played a ton of it already and the only factions I haven't played much of are the three Pirates and Raiders factions (4 including the freebie).

At this point, I feel like I'm waiting for at least a couple more factions before getting back into the game in earnest. Otherwise, I'll end up playing mostly factions that I've played to death already, with the occasional foray into the No-Daichi like P&R units.

My advice to CA would be to make an expansion that isn't just additional factions and a campaign map, but one that adds more peace-time stuff to play around with (i.e.: internal politics, more complex slave revolts, etc.). Give use something to entice us back to the older factions, because the siege AI is now at least functional and I wouldn't mind going back to them so long as a little something is different other than just finally having okay siege AI.

But really, every time I have a chance to play a videogame recently, I think about R2 and even start it up, only to quit from the menu screen and choose something else, and it's all because the siege AI working is great but I've spent a good amount of time with almost every faction. And working siege AI isn't quite enough to make me want to return to anything but my favorite factions (Parthia, Carthage, and Macedon primarily).

There is a rumour that the next patch will have political improvements, but to me that's just people speculating/hyping up as usual, well i'm not betting on it coming in the next update to say the least, but they are indeed working on improving it.

The next DLC/FLC however will most likely be an Eastern faction Dlc, whether or not it will be a part of an expansion is yet unknown also - but some loose files that came with the latest patch give off a very suspicious indication that it will have something to do with The Mithridatic Wars.

I agree that political improvements will almost certainly not be in a patch... a DLC maybe, but most likely an expansion. That is, if we see political improvements at all.

Eastern factions would be fun. I hope they flesh out the roster for Pontus, because they and the Suebi have pretty meagre rosters (Suebi has a few more units but the extra units are often slight variations of each other).

Yes i agree, Pontus, Ardiaei, Galatia and especially the Odyrssian Kingdom also need a bit more expansion to their somewhat lacking unit roster. Just 2-4 or so units will do, but they don't need to go ridiculous with adding anymore than that, unless its historically authentic.

Perhaps they might expand on the Pontic roster if they do in fact make a Mithridatic Wars expansion, seeing as they were a major player during that war and to get an extra few units might just bring them the reputation they actually deserve.

Yeah i think it's time for a new campain DLC that takes place in the late Roman era. We have so much content in the early and mid Roman era why don't we have the late empire that is declining? I wan't to defend the once mighty empire from the hordes. I also wan't to fight the eastern empire and reunite the Romam Empire and make it recover and then move on conquest to take land that Rome never had.

I think patch 14 was for this exact purpose. A defensive campaign (one wherein you just fight as long as you can until they conquer you, like the Roman decline) depends on good siege AI, or all those sieges are boring.

They may very well do a decline of Rome soon, now that they patched up the siege AI with the most recent patch.

But, yes, I think an Eastern Campaign will appear first.

I agree with you on the seige ai fix for an expansion for the fall of Rome. For the 1st time today i fought a defensive seige and i nearly lost the walls and i was against 3 armies however i had 3 legions so i smashed into them like a knife on butter lol.
Also i saved the replay so i might record it wensday and upload it to youtube. :D

I've noticed some issues still with the seige AI that I would hope they fix before making such a expansion. For example I've had cases where the AI decided to send up ranged units into my melee units on the castle walls from the ladders when they still had melee units to send first. The AI threw the lives of these men away for no reason whatsoever. Also Elephant units for some reason tend to sometimes go right infront of my gates and just sit there until they are picked off by the arrows.

Yeah i noticed that as well. Hopefully the devs will get it fixed
If my city is ever at risk of being attacked i would ussualy have a legion in the city. Aslo every legion i have has onagers and ballista. Now i have the large onagers and ballista so it's very easy for me to cut them down before they hit my walls. As for ladders they all ussually reach my walls so i have ot send cohorts up to fight them and i have my auxillary archers from a nice mod to cover the walls where the ladders arn't. They have the same range distance as the slingers and they deal more damage than a slinger but they still don't deal as much as a skrimisher. They are good for range and wearing the enemy down along with my heavy artillary and the enemy is almost always about to break when they clash with my troops. It's very effective and i am steam rolling the ai in everybattle due to having all these heavy units and massive artillary lol. Elephants also go down in seconds. XD

If they fix pathfinding on walls, non barbarian walls especialy, and multiple ai army attacking ai, then sieges will be in great working condition.

Just a warning about replay.... it replays the commands that were made during the battle, not the battle iteslf. So there might be variations.

Yeah and now the town seiges are open land battles but i also found a way to make it come to my advantage. The enemy comes to me and i tear them apart before their reinforcements arrive lol.

I would like a BI 2 but first they need to polish the game a little more (Politics etc). I reckon the next dlc will be eastern factions (I reckon Cimmera (Bosophoran kingdom), Armenia and Pergamon, someone on the official forum suggested this and I agree it is the most likely) however wether or not it will be a campaign remains to be seen (Mithraditic wars?).
Jano Aug 5, 2014 @ 10:37pm
hello everyone. What I would really like to see in this game is a system of politics that allows the player to feel he or she is fighting a politcal battle as well. I think it would be nice to have more options, at the time of dealing with other families. I'd also like to see an advisor on politics, keeping you informed on what's happening with your enemies or what they might be planning against you. i think this would give the game some of that historical depth most of us feel it is lacking. what do you think?
