Is this the best TW yet?
I've seen many people expressing massive disappointment about this game and many leaping to its defence, but I haven't heard any veteran player describe it as their favourite.

Does anybody regard this as the best of the TW games they've played? Just wondering.

No its the worst, I uninstalled it for ages and I've just tried it again and find myself just bored and irritated at it, I normally watch stuff while playing games but normally I don't pay much attention to what I'm watching, with rome 2 I don't pay attention to the game, it just doesn't hold my attention.

The campaign map is dull as building is annoying, diplomacy is awful (tried it again as rome.. everybody just hates me no matter what so I basically didn't touch it) and theres just generally not much too do.. you just build boring crap and then do nothing else..

This would never be ok but its worse because combat is so BORING, I don't have a clue why but in shogun 2 the fighting is enjoyable and it feels like truly epic huge battles. In rome 2 it just never feels epic or enjoyable, just an annoying chore. I honestly don't get what it is, but battles just feel pathetic in rome 2.

Do you think it still could, or is it too late?

War Barney is very correct about the gameplay. The game has improved alot since launch, but it will never be what it could have been. i remember it had 50,000-60,000 people on day 1 when it was realeased and slowly died down to 10,000-12,000.This game had everything going for it but those greedy ♥♥♥♥s in Sega and CA had to screw us all over and its even worse becuase its a sequel to one of the best total wars and all you people who think your heroes taking up for this atrocity they have released are the reason game companies release games in alpha stage and ♥♥♥♥♥ dlc. The fact that the game has been out for less than a year and has gone through 14 patches and still has big issues with it and for them to sell it for $60, which is what a complete game cost is totaly unacceptable. Not to mention all the dlc that should already be in the game is overpriced(7.99 for the greek faction!). i would not pay more than $20 for this game and dont touch the dlc unless theres one your dying to have.

I haven't been totally happy with any Total War release since Empire. But I have also found all the features I want available through mods. In other words I don't really expect much from vanilla other than a base to mod my way and with millions of gamers with different tastes I think that's all I can expect. In vanilla form I don't care much for the game, but with the mods of my choice it's become one of my fav's.

So, nearly but not quite.

Which mods have made the difference for you?

This game certainly has the potential to be. Honestly I am enjoying the game.

"Traits, Talents, and Toadies", "4TPY", "Roman Laws Simulation", "Rome 1 Music", "Better AI Recruitment", and "Meaningful Unique Provinces" are big game changers for me.

Been playing since the first Shogun myself. Shogun 2 is best of more recent titles. Rome 2 is very weak; lacks a lot of depth in various places.

if you like ancient history, yes, this total war is the best

I meant in terms of gameplaying experience rather than historical accuracy.

It's a matter of personal taste, period.

For me, Rome 2 was the worst TW release. I waited many months before even trying to complete a first compaign.

But now, it's an average TW title.

Why average ? I've never experienced an idle army in Shogun 2. I still get some in multi armies AI siege in Rome 2. Of course, ladders use works fine now, but idle reinforcing armies is'nt acceptable nearly one year after release.

Overall, an ok TW title, with a weakness in siege AI that prevent me to rank it higher.
