[Linux] Graphic Options Not Being Saved
Continuing on from the Linux/Mac Versions thread:

I and others have experience issues with the Options app, where setting graphic settings dosen't make a difference in-game, quality always seems to stay at low.

Also, for me at least, I've been able to change resolution and fullscreen or windowed, but no other options are used in-game.

Another interesting thing is that I removed the config.ini inside the game directory and it never came back.

One other behavior I noticed on my system is that the settings are being saved in the configuration app somewhere, but the game itself dosen't use them. I set the graphic preset to medium, save, and launch the config app again, and it is still medium. Then switch it to high, and it is high the next time I launch the config app. Still, the game dosen't use any of these settings.

So maybe the config app is saving in the incorrect location, although not sure why resolution options work.

For the libGLEW dependence, have you considered bundling that with the game, or possibly making it work with the newer versions of that library? Linking to the one that is included in Steam didn't seem to help. The error about it not seeing the library went away, but the functionality stayed the same.

I didn't see any errors in the console when I ran the config app manually.

Here's the config log: http://pastebin.com/WGub2V3M

I originally thought the config app was not working at all for you :)
The config.ini was used in windows version and is not used at all in linux/mac port. These use platform-independent method of saving configuration. It means that the configuration is saved in a place that is preferred for the given platform. For GNU/Linux it will most likely be ~/.config/GamesFarm/ACPC.ini.
If changing resolution/fullscreen has effect on the game display options, the mechanism is working. However, there is indeed no visible effect of changing advanced display options. This issue is being looked into.

Ah ok, I see the config file in that location.

Thanks, could you update this thread once the config app has been fixed?

Same thing here, the game does not honor the graphic settings. It's always on low.

We are working on the fixes - the fixes should be hopefully completed and published next week.

We made a new release. Please check out the functionality now.

Just tried the new version, still not working. The graphic settings are being saved by the config app (launching it again keeps the settings I set), but the game dosen't use them.

Also, it looks like some advanced graphic settings were removed, as well Very High preset was removed. Why is that?

Yeah a lot of graphics options were removed for me to.. soo..Is this how the game will stay on linux? Because in the trailer (which i presume shows the windows version) the graphics looks far more appealing than what i see here...

Trailer was made from Windows version made on DirectX, yes; actually before we even started to think about Mac/Linux versions.

The visual quality is not on-par with Windows/DirectX, we acknowledge that. This has several reasons, but mostly the fact that OpenGL is more difficult and less development friendly and furthermore I have to admit that our experience with OpenGL is also the way less compared to DirectX/Windows.

We did our best to squeeze as much from the OpenGl as possible. We hopefully will be able to make later updates to the shaders to improve the visual quality. But I honestly cannot promise you any significant improvements - we will do our best, but working with OpenGL is just different to what we have been doing so far...

We are sorry for confusion - we updated the configuration application to actually match what the game really uses.

So, the really bad water and everything is actually the best you can do? Would have liked to know there would have been graphical issues like that before buying this game. False advertising much? I appreciate the effort to port the game to other platforms, but just hearing about this now is worrisome.

There are lots of OpenGL games that have visuals on par with the DirectX versions. Have you thought about contacting a porting person, such as Icculus or Ethan?

So this is the best the game can do on other platforms now? The following screenshots is the game on Linux set to High settings.

That's a big difference than PC, for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFHwlvx_zkA

It's very disappointing to hear that. Nothing stated that the difference in graphics is noticable and just after a few days you kinda admitted that it's not the ini file or the settings being saved wrong. I simply won't be able to have anywhere near the same detail. I really appreciate that you ported this game to linux and that's why I bought it at full price but I am really disappointed now knowing that I will not have the same detail as I'd have on windows.

I wonder if it'd be possible to get a refund on this. I appreciate the effort to port to Linux also, but missing graphical features, and the big difference between the quality of the Windows version vs the Linux version, as well as not finding this out until a week or so after it came out, is very disappointing and very misleading, due to no warning on this before buying the game.

Now your screenshots are certainly not how the game should look like in Linux. It is way below what we are seeing on our end and I understand your dissapointment now.

Can you please report us which graphics card is your computer equipped with so we can reproduce the behavior?
Thanks and sorry for inconvenience.

System specs: http://pastebin.com/nEW8Cjer

This system and graphics card works fine for plenty of other games.

What should the game be looking like on Linux? What features are missing from the game compared to Windows?
