When someone puts their game into the Workshop and says their code is there for people to see....
How are you able to see the code/fnd the file to be able to open it to look at their code/engine?

So far haven't been able to figure it out. I'm mostly on the official Gamemaker forums but have seen many people on Steam putting their engines and stuff onto here as 'open source' for people to learn from. That's a great concept and good for everyone who is learning to use Gamemaker but how can one actually see the coding? All I can ever do is 'play' their work.

It's their job to put the source of the game on Steam, I believe.

What do you mean on steam? shouldnt it be downloaded with the subscription to their game?

I believe you can click make>import then find the downloaded file and open it, but that may be incorrect.

Which directory do the downloaded games go anyway?

I'd love to try and track it down but the entire workshop seems to be offline right now so I can't sub to anything to try and see where it downloads to.

As far as I know, you CAN'T view the source of someone else's game, unless they specifically allow you to.

To my knowledge, they have to provide a link for where you can get a gmz or other file. Link posting it in a comment and linking a google drive document.

So it seems the people who think they are giving out their source arent unless they give an external link.

That sucks, since it seems there are many workshop projects that are like that right now.

Ok, so I found where the downloaded Workshop games go (Steam\userdata\45165304\ugc\referenced). It's safe to say that you can't view the game's source directly from the downloaded files, aside from the background music.
