creating my own simple sprite, why wont transparency show in gamemaker?
Ok, I'm relatively new to all of this, but I'm a quick learner. I'm moderately proficient at making simple graphics in GIMP, but I have a lot to learn about file formats, etc. I made a very simply sprite(a bottle of green liquid). I exported it as a .png. When i open it in gamemaker, the transparency is gone and it just has a white background. Any advice?

It was apparently a problem with gamemaker because it showed up properly when I tried again a little later. I like gamemaker so far but it is kinda glitchy. Thank you tho.

It is glitchy at times, that was what I wanted to see if it was an issue with the sprite or gm. If I start getting odd erros. I click clean build. I assumes that deletes and rebuilds. I then close and restart GM. I pulled my hair out with frustration my first 48 hours trying to do my first game. Now knock on wood I either changed me ways or GM is giving me a break. LOL

It's something to do with the way it interacts with Windows. I'm no expert, but it seems like they've tried overly hard to make their software extra unique in its look and feel, yet without actually accomplishing anything cool, and causing a lot of problems. Menus, windows, color schemes, icons, fonts... they've changed all these to weird things just to be different and I think something in there is what causes the glitchiness.

Glad to hear you're getting along well with it though. I'm doing ok so far and overall it's a lot of fun. So are you a GIMP artist?

An artist, I just like gimp. My favorite program is Painter for rt, gimp is good for doing web graphics photo maniplulation.

I haven't tried Painter myself. Gimp has a feature I can't live without, so I stick with it - it's free :D. But actually, I'm just learning digital art so I had to start somewhere and I don't wanna switch 'til I'm proficient with one. Anyway, I read your blog and looks like you're into game development too. I'm trying to get there. I sent you an add request. Add me if you like.
