Xbox 360 Controller not working
So I'm super thrilled to start playing this game, but despite my Xbox 360 controller being plugged in, the game doesn't seem to recognize it. The only controls that respond are keyboard controls and I can't seem to map buttons to it either. Has anyone else run into this?

I'm using a cheapo logitech dual action controller and the game recognizes that fine. You'd think the xbox 360 controller would work because that's the diagram they use in the settings.

Checked the control panel and everything looked fine there. Checked Assassin's Creed 2 since I was definitely using my controller for that game a couple weeks ago and it worked fine there. It looks like the trouble is with Half Minute Hero?

For what it's worth, I couldn't find any save files or preference files anywhere and upon restarting the application it doesn't look like the game saved my preference of the retro graphics because it starts up with the new graphics.

Okay. Figured out how to fix my problem. I checked out my Device Manager and confirmed that my 360 controller was indeed working from the properties menu. That's when I noticed "Virtual Hid Device" was appearing in all lists that also listed my 360 controller. I disabled it (go to Device Manager, then Human Input Devices, then right click your Virtual Hid Device, and click on Disable) and now everything works fine.

@Jumbocactuar i really can't get it to work, care to put up a screenshot or something? I don't seem to have any "vitual hid device" whatsoever..

Is your controller wireless? Is it powered on when you start the game?

Here's a link to a screenshot of my device manager: http://imgur.com/S6zok

Hope you can figure something out soon. Post here if you do!

Same problem, my controller isn't working in this game.
I have a lot of HID drivers but only a few related to plugged devices (Mouse, Keyboard).

just use joy2key. I use it with any game that doesn't support gamepads.

Is it plugged in when you start the game or do you plug it in after the game is started?

it's plugged in 24/7 to be honest

Just wanted to mention that when I was having trouble with my controller, I had the same thought. I've used XPadder for years, so I just booted that up, but it didn't get inputs from my controller either! I wish I had more information to help people, but all I can suggest is disabling any Virtual HID Devices one at a time and then booting up the game to see if it helped. Unfortunately I don't know enough about how the 360 controller drivers work with games to offer more help.

Odd...What version of Windows are you using? Did you use driver CD to install drivers for your pad or just let Windows install one? Have you tried Joy2key? Sorry for all the trouble, but I can't repro this bug on my end and we never saw it in testing.
