Thirty Flights of Loving

Thirty Flights of Loving

Save your money
Just watch a lets play of this.. "game". You will get the same experience as theres almost zero interactivity in it anyway. IMO it's a 'barely' entertaining experiment but honestly there's almost nothing here to justify charging anything.

Lol I really wish ZeroPunctuation would do a review of this game, it would be longer than the game itself... and make more sense.

Also it would give the game a reason to exist cos at the moment it is pretty pointless.

I agree, I have played flash games for free with more depth AND length than this game
You should read this: http://unbirthgame.com/TheSelfPresenceStorytelling.pdf
Seriously. I know it's long, but you will understand why what you said is simply wrong.
Sorry but that's a little TL;DR. I don't really need a paper to tell me that a game wasn't very enjoyable though. I do appreciate their approach to storytelling. For the split second it lasted I did get more out of the dialog-less story than I would have expected. However, that doesn't make it a good game.
Why so many mixed opinions when the game has a 89 metascore
It's gonna be in an indie bundle in the next month or so anyway.
Pricey for a ten minute game, but it's still enjoyable. Not worth the money though >_>
I regret buying this, even when it was on sale.

Do you honestly believe that a high metascore instantly means it is a good and enjoyable game for everyone? No.
The game has no gameplay elements, so it's not really a game. And yes, it's short to the extreme, so if you measure the value of a game using it's length you'll be disappointed. And yes, the base price of $5 really is too much. Still, I played it at a very slow pace, paying attention to every single thing, trying to connect to the story and to the characters, enjoying the great sound and music and artsy visuals, and I had a great time. It does seem to be a love it or hate it game (and most of those who love it, I think, are creative people), even if everyone agrees it's overpriced.
Half-assed "game or not game discussions" aside, I enjoyed my time with Thirty Flights of Loving and hope the Blendo peeps throw more of these at us. I paid less than four bucks for it, I ain't whinin'. I've spent more money on a single cup of coffee I barely remember drinking, much less enjoying. This game got me pumped. Makes me want to create my own.
And number scores suck, people. Make your own decisions!

No, i believe that a high metascore instantly means that lots of people enjoy it, not everybody. Apparently noone actually enjoys it so i don't get it how is it at 89.
i dont understand why people would make a game like this. Gravity bone was free , longer , AND better then this... seriously this isnt even a game ,i dont care how technical you want to get , this honestly is not a game. 4 dollars may not be alot , but it is something , and as a person without a job, 4 dollars is alot , especially when compared to games like : gianna sisters , from dust . i understand some people might value the method in which it tells its story, and it get it. it was actually very good , but honestly , i played it 30 minutes ago and i already forgot most of it. and the fact that i beat it in less then 2 minutes doesnt help
Oh man, if i had only read this! Playing Dear Esther was 2 hours of environment explorations and an interesting idea.
This is about 2 Minutes (okay, maybe up to 10?). At first i thought: What a cool intro! And then it was over...
Honestly, don't buy it. I guess there is a lets play video on youtube, that is *exactly the same* as you can't do anything in this game...

Honestly did you even thoroughly check the metascore site? It only got a high score because the score was calculated by the critics side. If you look at the user reviews on that same website, you'll see that more people disliked this "game" than people liking it. Critics do not speak for the gamers as they are completely biased based on where they get their money from. Users like ourselves who actually pay to play the game speak for the gamers.

If the metascore reflected on the user reviews instead, it'd most likely be a 53 instead of an 89.
To be fair the game is more of an experiment than anything else. I think it's odd to charge for it. I bought it on release and to be honest, I never lamented having paid for a game that did something unique. I think it's more interesting than 95% of games that come out now. This kind of game is one to split people though. Personally, I don't think the game is particularly substance-laden and that's a criticism because it rides solely on the aesthetics. It asks a lot of the player to appreciate it. Your reaction to a game that differs from the norm probably says a lot about how you view the medium. Above all else it's a game which shows you can present a video-game story within the game itself, and in denying the idea of plot coherence it actually shows how coherence works regardless. It's something that is a power of the medium. Because of your position as the player you're creating a story, even when the story is being broken apart completely.

And yeah you could watch it. You could watch somebody read a book (aloud). It's not the same thing.
