Wont launch on Mac

would love a little help on this just got the game and when i try and open it it says it 'quit unexpectedly' and i cant get it working. my mac specs seem to be fine. this is the first game i got from steam so it may be a problem with steam on my computer opposed to this game in particular.
any help would be great!
