TL;DR - I liked this game but it does get repetative. It's short and might not be worth your money.
I'll start off by saying I had a great time with this game. I completed it in just under 3 hours but the character's are pretty good and it does have a lot to offer.
Having completed it only once, I enjoyed my time thouroughly. But felt that there wasn't ehough to warrant another play.
The basis of the game is that you need 5 members to start your new comedy club at your highschool. You start with two, yourself and your roommate. You must pick 3 others from 6 possible people. The premise is you get to know these people more and more as you play and increase your friendship level with them.
As you increase each level you start to learn more and more about each character. It's a nice way to include some character development and backstory but personally it felt like it was unnatural and forced. You got a special cutscene of sorts each time you leveled your friendship up and your friend would open up a little more to you. So overall I got the sense that I wasn't acting as a friend I was there purely because I required members.
Advancing friendship in this game is repetitive and more of a chore. There isn't any development between levels you find them somewhere in town and then you talk to them about something for a third of the day. You either find out they liked or hated what you talked to them about but you don't get any other dialogue. I spoke to these characters day after day as more of necessity to win than me wanting to learn about the character because you only learned about them as you advance levels. This part of the game is the majority of what you do and It's a shame that it isn't interesting.
To be honest most characters are copy paste generic. There are a couple that aren't terrible but it just seems to me like they don't really have a whole lot of depth. There's shy girl, rocker girl, foreign transfer student, and creepy stalker (as stated this is only one playthrough). There is however a few characters which were really likeable and fun. It's just unfortunate that these are not characters you could conscript. I'm sure that many people will disagree with me but I felt as though the characters I liked were ones I spent the least time with. And that is a real shame for a story driven game like this.
Based on what you've read you might think that this game isn't worth getting. And you could be right. A 3 hour experience for $8. But if I play it going after the other three targets I could get 6 hours out of it. Which isn't terrible. Of course many people are going to say that it isn't enough for them and that's understandable. I did have fun and the game is worth a couple of laughs and some enjoyable characters. If you're buying this game you HAVE TO get the sequel. It adds much more depth to characters and creates a better experience out of both of them. I feel the games should not be seperate and would do better to be a single title but playing both of them isn't that big of a deal.
If you're going to buy this game buy it on sale in the bundle,
