Cherry Tree High Comedy Club

A question about Miley...
WARNING: This post is about Miley's psychlogical profile, and it's not necessarily very positive. If you think that might potentially damage your enjoyment of this game, don't read on!

Did anyone else read Miley as being at least borderline psychopathic?

The Hare Psychopathy Checklist identifies the following behaviours as markers for psychopathy:

* Glibness/superficial charm
* Grandiose sense of self-worth
* Pathological lying
* Conning/manipulative
* Lack of remorse or guilt
* Emotionally shallow
* Callous/lack of empathy
* Failure to accept responsibility for own actions
* Need for stimulation/proneness to boredom
* Parasitic lifestyle
* Lack of realistic, long-term goals
* Impulsivity
* Irresponsibility
* Poor behavioral controls
* Early behavioral problems
* Juvenile delinquency
* Revocation of conditional release
* Criminal versatility
* Many short-term marital relationships
* Promiscuous sexual behavior

...Miley hits a LOT of those (obviously the last two aren't applicable). Heck, the goal of the game is forming friendships primarily to suit her own aims. She's incredibly manipulative, and isn't afraid to lie or guily trip people to get what she wants, but she's so charming that people forgive her. Ditto the way she uses Harriet without much regard for how Harriet might feel about it; Harriet always seems to forgive her or make excuses for her. Miley's general recklessness, restlessness and impulsiveness is a recurring theme too, and NPCs often remark on her lack of self-restraint and her inability to set realistic goals.

So two questions, really... do you agree with the assessment that Miley may suffer from psychopathy? And if so, do you think it's intentional on the part of 773?

She's just a very open, confident, and carefree person.

Also when she does lie and guilt trip people she's usually just joking around. She has a sarcastic sense of humor, but I seriously doubt she actually means any harm by it since she's a comedian.

Also the game is done in a comedic light on purpose, some of the characters and things said/done are over the top on purpose.

Sounds more like ADD/ADHD?

Also she apparently works, so she's not that parasitic.

ADHD is something I hadn't thought about, but it's an good call. :)

A psychopath, especially in a borderline case, isn't necessarily going out of their way to hurt others. She might not mean any harm by it - that doesn't mean she's not causing harm ;)

So I guess i'm a psychopath.

Wonderful, that's just another problem I have to deal with. :(

I would agree that any type of guilt tripping or anything of that manor is done in a comedic light. I don't think Miley ever expects anthing to come of it. When May immediately jumps to join the club, Miley stops her. I think if something simular would have happened with another character she would do the same thing. She might not think about her actions too much at times, but she wants the best for her friends and for them to join at their own time.

In anime, the need for friendship overpowers all. If there are people to made friends of, then damn it, nothing else matters. The question of psychopathy is irrelevant in the animeverse.

Well if you saw the ending scene you get when you have at least four other members, it does shed some light on her.

I know this is an old topic, but I just got and played this game....While I do like the game a lot I didn't like Miley at all!! There was something very irritating about her...I think it's because she thought she was hilarious but really was not funny in the slightest. But I do love these kinds of games though.

Maybe Mairu is matched in some aspects with the list(about 40% of the list are not matched,but really hilarious question,here),while I think there are some other "symptoms" those compensate the psychopathy ones.
Mairu showed empathy or pity for her candy store owner friend Amane when she chose to sell the store,though it might most possibly cause the owner leaving the town and interrupt her recruitment,the choice made is still not of large profit to her.We can see she spiritually accept the sittuation,"praised" Amane for her self-made choice and continue the friendship as usual in the later story(I've not encountered the event of Mairu stops Amane joining the club,but an bad ending in the first round.),which telling she's not psychopathic,at least not a "psychopath".
Mairu is less possibly a pathological lyer,she's just too much like a child.She lies for face,as many children do.She got angry and awkward when Hoemi blamed her for bad advice for her,which can be deemed childish,also.
We may think about this:what Mairu do in the work is all for the purpose of recruitment,as I mentioned above,empathy for Amane is also affiliated to losing the potential recruit.BUT,we should also take that the story is in Japanese manga style,which is always unrealistic and the game is small,compact and a bit "minimalist" for adding some deeper discription.
Very hilarious and worth thinking and marking.Well done.
