(SOLVED) Cannot activate Fullscreen mode
The game crashes to desktop every single time, no matter what resolution is set. Any ideas? If this is widespread, hope a patch come soon. I cannot play this in windowed mode. D:

Running on an ATI HD4890 on Catalyst 12.6.

I'll ask around a bit about this one. It could be your screen size causing trouble? Are you running on dual-screens? See if by deactivating one you get the game running.

Only one 1080p IPS panel in use; I tried adjusting the refresh rate from 60hz to something lower, but no luck. Also tried disabling Catalyst AI, disabling antivirus, and unplugging my Wacom drawing tablet, but no luck. The game closes out abruptly with no error message. Thanks, I'll keep experimenting as time permits.

You're welcome. Let me think... Ether Vapor generates a crash report for this situations IIRC. Check your c:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\Ether Vapor folder for a .log file (or anything that says crash). If you could upload that in Dropbox or mediafire we might forward it to the dev to take a look. This could be pointing out what's the problem.

One more thing: I've had a patch failing recently on Steam, try to re-download the game (or validating the caché) in case something got borked while you were downloading. Hopefully, the game is so small it won't take too long.

Second and final: see if by downloading this from Microsoft the game boots up. I'm not sure the game applies the "first-time setup" so it doesn't hurt to try this.

Good luck!

No luck after verifying the cache, reinstalling the game, or updating DX9 (installer said it was already up to date). Here is a copy of the log file: https://hotfile.com/dl/174238546/a0f1a96/EtherVapor.log.html

I hope someone can decipher it and offer a solution. Thanks for the time spent.

Try disabling vibration in the controller options. I've noticed the ForceFeedback creation results in an error in your log.. then again I'm no pro, so I'm not sure if that's what it is referring to since it's under the sound fields of the log.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it had no effect. Afterwards, I tried unplugging the Horipad EX2 to see if it was at all associated with the controller, but it still closes immediately going into fullscreen.

I was wondering about the pad. Hmmm, I realised this could be the game not detecting the proper resolution. Could you lower your desktop resolution to 1024*768 (or its closest equivalent in 16:9, which should be 720p) and see if that fixes it? Or make it 4:3 (you'll probably get the black bars) but at least you might be able to configure things in game this way.

EDIT:

PROBLEM SOLVED! It was Panda Cloud Antivirus. It was detecting the game going into fullscreen as a threat and simply closing it. Switched to a different AV application and have no problems.

hahaha oh man, after all that time and we didn't think about good ol' anti viruses and the likes. Glad it is solved :]

Thanks, yeah the weird thing is that disabling it was not enough; I had to uninstall and restart. Recently, it has also turned out that MSE does the same thing. I experimented by trying to exclude the Ether Vapor directory from any scans within MSE, but it did not work. I eventually lost patience, uninstalled it, and am currently running with no AV. What are you all using that does not interfere with this game? AVG?

I'm currently using NOD32 and that one didn't show any problems thankfully. (I think I only had problems with GFWL games where the anti-virus wouldn't let me enable them until I made exceptions.) Very flexible and lightweight. Tried EV:R on a notebook with McAfee and that proved fine as well. If you need to try free, check AVG or Avast. I have had pretty awful experiences with Norton and Panda Anti-Viruses. (Norton at home, Panda at work a couple of years ago where it allowed a hacker to take control of our network, argh.)

Hope that helps!

I'm actually using MSE without problems in regards to EVR (or any games, for that matter), then again I don't have the game through Steam if that makes any difference, I can run both the physical copy of the original JP game as well as the localized version which I bought directly off of the website in fullscreen.

I used to have Panda back then, I loved it until we made the move to Windows 7, then it started giving me tons of problems and I never used it again.
