What generic crap this is.
EVR suffers from having no personality, no awesome bullet patterns and painfully generic backgrounds that look like a slight step up from Starfox 64.

There's a difference in a fun bullet hell game and one that just wants to kick you in the balls as often as it can due to its inadequacies.

This game is the latter with projectile blocking explosions and lazers that can't decide which 3d plane they're on until they hit you. Awesome design choice there.

Those saying how great this game is must either be new to gaming or have never played another shooter in their lives.

There are far superior shooters on mame and they're all free.

I can probably assume you're new to INDIE gaming. You see, most indie devs aren't well funded like many AAA developers and developers like Edelweiss make games as a hobby. Obviously you need your eyes checked because ETHER VAPOR Remaster's visuals are far superior to any game on the N64 (no disrespect to my fellow N64 fans out there reading this). I've played my fair share of shoot 'em ups before, indie and AAA shooters alike, and Edelweiss has done a solid job with this game and unique shifting mechanics. The game is not perfect (no widescreen support and needs better PC options), but the game doesn't deserve morons like insulting people for liking this game and assuming the majority of people buying this game never played a shoot 'em up before while giving a biased opinion on said game. If you feel still butthurt about spending the $3.99 for this game that you're never getting back though, then you should file out this report sheet[th09.deviantart.net] to Edelweiss and Nyu Media if they give a damn of what you think is "THE GREATEST SHOOTER EVAR". Thanks.

P.S.
Downloading ROMs for MAME and other emulators is considered illegal and by absolutely no means are considered free games, which I highly doubt Steam will take kindly of. So I'd watch what you say if I was you. :3

Pretty sure this game isn't a bullet hell.

There's a difference between shmups and touhou / bullet hell. Learn the difference. This is a great mid-school shmup in the vein of Raystorm.

I actually like this game because it's so damn easy. It's like baby's first bullet hell. Your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is contrary to my play experience. :apafrog:

This game is actually free, but in steam you pay for it... Assuming it's free in the first place you can't expect an really really good game

"This game is actually free" Did I just read those exact words from you correctly? Please me tell me where in the heck did you get the notion that ETHER VAPOR, both the original and Remaster, were free games. As far as I now, Edelweiss -- and many doujin game developers -- have been selling their games (besides the original Fairy Bloom, which became freeware at point) at Comiket which later gets sold through retailers like Melonbooks, Toranoana, DLsite, et cetera. I very well doubt they would openly give a game like this out for free unless they feel like doing so, which I doubt is gonna happen anytime soon. The only doujin games that I know of that actually went freeware are Fairy Bloom (NOT Fairy Bloom Freesia), The Chaste Full-metal Maiden -Leiria- and its remake, Lethal Application, and Patriot Dark.

Also, just because some games are released as freeware doesn't immediately labled them as crap. Wanna see my point? Look at Cave Story and La-Mulana. B)

this is definitely not bullet hell as others are saying

in terms of shmups it is the most difficult i have played, but beneath bullet hells i have played in terms of difficulty for sure

this game definitely crushes raiden, gradius, r-type, jamestown, sine mora, etc. for shmup difficulty
The OP must be new to indie games. I am also new to them as well, but I completely disagree with everthing the OP posted. A slight step up from Starfox 64 in visuals??? Are you serious??? Either you had a super graphics powered N64, or your PC video card sucks for gaming. EVR even on the lowest settings (640x480, anti-alisaing off, and graphics quality set to minimum) looks better than anything on the N64. On the highest setting EVR looks almost as good as PS2/Dreamcast game. I wish the N64 looked this good.

I just installed this and I have no idea what people see in it. I remember when Midway 1942 came out in 1984. Now that was a good shooter with better graphics. I'm sure there is some reason people enjoy this game and I don't want to take away from it, but I'm at a total loss trying to guess what it is.

i am starting to think, based on this discussion and others, that a small percentage of people are getting the wrong game installed when they get this game

Fixed.
First, this isn't a danmaku ("bullet hell") game; your hitbox isn't extremely small and the emphasis isn't on weaving through complex patterns.

Second, it appears that this game is very forgiving to newbies and simultaneously very unforgiving to veterans aiming to get high scores. I know I enjoyed the game as a newbie to shmups, but I've also heard people say that it's extremely hard, and I think the reason for this is that it gives extra shields and continues as you play but its baseline scoring design is very tough.

The bullets in this game are a bit hard to see at times, yes. But overall, I enjoyed the game enough that I'm going to go and buy a gifting copy of it right now, actually.

Not convinced by this one... The fact that most of the times I don't even get to see what hit me gets really frustrating. Am I the only one that thinks they overdid it with the special effects? To me they downput the experience. Decent game in other respects though.
the shots mixing in with the background and the special effects obscuring shots are both annoying yes
only real downsides in the game to me though

I agree, on both points. The shots blending in is annoying, but that's my only problem with this game. (And maybe the music is not the most interesting music in the world, but there's nothing particularly bad about it.)

Otherwise I positively recommend this game.
