Serious framerate issues

I love point and click adventures games, and I fondly remember Guybrush Threepwood so this looked right up my alley. Unfortunately I am having a very hard time getting this game to work properly. If anyone has any suggestions on how to increase framerates when playing on Windows 7 it would be most appreciated. As it stands now, the game simply isn't playable.
