Does this Version work an 64-bit machines ?
I own the original CD , but after installation it says that the game doesn't work on 64 bit machines. Does the steam version run on it ?

I have the original CD and download versions working fine in 64 bit Win 7. Try re-installing the game outside the Program Files path, if that is where you have it now.

I wish I could say the same about my new W8 64bit, I5, GTX 650 rig.

The game is unplayable for me in Direct3D mode - the loading takes forever, and the game lags, lurches, and shudders. In software mode the game runs fine, but the graphics quality suffers greatly.

I downloaded the old DD configtool.exe, and replaced and renamed it. However, whenever I attempted to launch it to try and run the game with Direct Draw, all that I would get is a pop-up that had a big yellow (!) on it - thus I could not configure the game to use the old config tool.

I am downloading the game again, and I have disabled the 'Execute Disable Bit' in my BIOS (which is basically DEP - or Data Execution Prevention), and have also disabled Windows Defender 'Real Time Monitoring', and UAC (User Account Controls), to see if any of these are disallowing the games access to the hardware.

I hope this works, as running the game in software mode is my only other alternative - and for me personally, the lower quality graphics is a compromise that I am just not willing to accept.

I'll post back with my results.
