Come on people no one is saving their games?
That is the only type of saving.
Edit: when I say move around I mean go to the store, talk to people, do something that will make that icon come up.
You should be bale to save when ever you want :P
Usually I have only lost a minute or so even if I save then quit without waiting to see that icon. I am sure you haven't played for an hour without it. Unless you have spent an hour trying to do the same thing - like I did trying to figure out how to use the buddy ability until I finally figured out I had the wrong buddy.
The manual save does not save the current position, but makes a copy of the last checkpoint save. It's not meant as a "save" as such, but as a certain backup position to replay from.
^^ Nailed it. There is also a limited number of copies you can make until you have to overwrite old ones.. which is kinda lame.
