SOLVED!

In front of the wall you have to place a dynamite and walk over it...ok. I'm fine with that too.

I had the same problem and thought that might be the solution, but didn't try it as it's a ridiculous idea for a mechanic, surely you should just be able to "solidfy" a stone wall?

It does say you need the dynamite to stop the water.

Remember built walls can leak, and dwarves are good diggers but bad wall builders, to soildifiy the walls they need to bring in expert builders, and the expert builders wont touch the dwaf built walls as to many expert builders have died trying to work on these walls. Hence the huge cost

really logical explaination bromber. sadly, logic has no place when the walls dont actually leak.

Built walls do not leak (lava does destroy them slowly). However, your miner dwarves can decide to mine through your placed walls. This is why cave trapping has to have at least one hole involved.

If you were able to solidify a wall, it would be quite OP, as you can instantly fix any problem without having to sacrifice a dwarf and/or wait for him to get to the dynamite.

I put a hole past my wall, and built walls all around it, but it still says I haven't trapped the cave. =(
EDIT: There was another wall. Once I made a hole past it, I could finish.
