Fusion's Chao Editor 2.0 - A chao editor for Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2
Greetings.

I'm an administrator on Chao Island[chao.hippotank.com], which you may or may not have heard of. It's a website and forum for chao from the Sonic Adventure and Sonic Advance games. I have developed a program for modifying the chao in Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2 for the PC, and I would like to share it with this community.

I actually made the first version of this program in January 2011, but that version was only for the non-Steam PC version of SADX. In this newer version that I've released today, I added support for the Steam version of SADX, as well as the recently released SA2B.

I have a website where I host my various chao projects, and there is a section just for this program: http://chao.tehfusion.co.uk/chao-editor

You can check there for the full overview, features, screenshots, downloads, updates, and the version history. However, for your convenience, I'll also include some basic information in this thread.

Features
For a full list of features, check out the features page on my website. I'll give you a basic summary here, though.

This editor supports Sonic Adventure DX (original 2004 release), Sonic Adventure DX (2011 Steam release), and Sonic Adventure 2 (2012 Steam release). It lets you edit almost every chao-related setting, including (but not limited to) the following:
  • Chao ageing speed.
  • Second evolutions.
  • Happiness.
  • Number of reincarnations.
  • Remaining adult lifespan.
  • Personality.
  • Health and sickness.
  • Emotions and actions, such as crying, sleeping, or jumping with joy.
  • Bonds with the different characters.
  • Intelligence and luck stats.
  • Learnt animal behaviours.
  • Learnt classroom skills.
  • Toys.
  • Breed.
  • Medal worn on chest.
  • DNA.
  • Collected animals that are in the gardens.
  • Fruits that are in the gardens.
  • Hats that are in the gardens.
  • Seeds that are in the gardens.
  • The items for sale in the Black Market.
Finally, you can also right-click on any of your chao in the editor to get a special menu. This menu will let you cut, copy, and paste your chao between slots, delete your chao, or create a new egg in the slot. It will also let you export your chao to a .chao file, which can serve as a permanent backup or allow you to share it with your friends! You can also import chao from .chao files into any slot you wish. This way, you don't need to replace your entire garden save file to borrow somebody else's chao. These functions also allow you to transfer chao between SADX and SA2B on the PC.

Screenshots
It's always nice to see what something looks like before you download it. Check out the screenshots page on my website!

System requirements
My program only really has two system requirements.

Operating system: For the greatest user experience, you should be running either Windows Vista or Windows 7. However, you can still use this with Windows XP, as long as you have at least Service Pack 2 installed. It might not look as good, but it'll work.

.NET Framework: As this program is written for the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile, you will need that installed. It's a small download, far smaller than the full .NET Framework 4.0. If you are using the setup exe (which is recommended), you don't have to worry about it; it'll all be taken care of for you. If you are using the zip archive, you can download the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile here.

Download
Interested in my program? Want to download it? Just head over to the downloads page on my website. I recommend you choose the setup exe option.

Feedback
Have any opinions? Have any feedback to give me? Found a bug? Just post here or contact me through any other method. It's always possible that there are some bugs; however, I have thoroughly tested it and haven't yet found any. This program will be regularly updated as bugs are reported and fixed, or as new hacking discoveries are made.

It works perfectly. I have a question though, will you add the ability to change the color of chao's dot above their head? Or w.e it's called. Also, found instead of leaving the garden to have some efffects be implented you can just go to the chao gba thingy then exit, much faster than leaving the garden imo. Well that basically is leaving the garden lol!
Eh, anyways thanks for this awesome tool mate!

It doesn't detect the game when it runs.

The exe needs to be named sonic2app to be recognized. It wont see Launcher. :/

Oh never mind, it works now, but not exactly in the way Senku described it. If the process is called sonic2app.exe and it still doesn't load, just start it up as admin :P

Thanks for the comments!

Yes, that's correct. It currently is set up to detect the game by looking at both the process name and the window title. One other person had the same problem. Is this a common thing? Do many people rename the game file? It sounds rather strange to me, especially as you can already start the game directly by just running sonic2app.exe itself, but if this is common then I'll make the editor support it.

That's right, it's sometimes necessary to run it as admin. If the game or Steam is running as admin for whatever reason, then the editor will also need to be running as admin in order to detect it. Otherwise, it won't be able to see the game process and won't have permission to modify it.

I can't seem to use it without calling the exe sonic2app and clicking it in the Steam folder cause I'm using x360ce to allow me to use a Gamecube controller. Otherwise normally the game boots up the configuration exe instead which breaks the controller support due to Steam booting Launcher.exe not sonic2app, so I had to flip flop the exe names. I'd like a fix for this, running the Chao exe as admin doesn't fix it. :<

Loving the editor so far, but i have a question: do the changes stay (like the speed of garden time) after i close the editor?

You can make an egg and hatch it then edit it as you please. If you're making a chao from scratch without an egg, that will require you to edit EVERY SINGLE STAT about them. It's frustatrating, really, just make an egg.

Yes, they do stay when you exit the editor.
