SA2: The New Challengers hack

Hey guys, I made a hack of this game that allows you to play any stage as a different character. If you have the DLC, you can play with any of the four same-gametype characters on whichever stage you choose. You can grab the download from Sonic Retro wiki, over here[info.sonicretro.org].

DISCLAIMER: This is NOT a crack, or otherwise a full version of the game. It will not run if you do not own the game on Steam, and the DLC content will be locked if you don't own that, either. I have no intention to promote piracy of this game, quite the contrary, I recommend you buy it if you haven't already, because it is a solid, fun game and the PC port is really top notch.

This is an awesome mod but I can't get it to work right. Trying to use it with the mod loader but it's not showing up on the Mod Loader's screen. I can't get it to install.

Okay so I downloaded the mod, extracted it using 7-zip, and then added it too my Sonic Adventures 2 file. However, every time I start it, it crashes when it's time to load the Live and Learn intro. It shows the Sega and Sonic Team Logo, and it shows the tip about the sunglasses, and then it crashes. I'm in way over my head, but I really want this mod... >.>

Does the game load up fine normally? I've found that I can't run SA2 in fullscreen at all in my current rig, something about vsync. Try running the game in windowed mode.

Oh wow, I'm actually really happy you responded! The game loads normally when I just play SA2. I had to delete it and re-install SA2, though because my game broke and I couldn't fix it. I reinstalled it, and it worked fine when I was using the normal launcher.

I noticed there was a video on youtube talking about the benefits of the mod. It'd be kind of nice if they also did a video showing what to do to get it to work.

I have an issue now where it doesn't work with a controller. Like, SA2 does, but when I run the mod it's unresponsive.

Sorry you're having so much trouble! That kind of stuff never happened to me when I was working on the thing.

I am way beyond done with this mod, but I have been kicking around the idea of breaking up its features into smaller mods for use with MainMemory's mod loader. Right now I lack the time and motivation to do so, though.

Fred, About your hack,

I have the same problem Spike had; The game stopped working after the "now loading" part before the intro to the game. I did use the program compatibilty troubleshooter and used every compability mode available but it couldn't fix the hack. However, it did say that the Sonic 2 tnc app was an incompatible program plus this as well.

No, I wanted to use the Chao Garden Extended mod and I needed this hack in order for some parts of it to work..

Hey I love this mod! But I have a problem; when I hit the left bumper, it doesn't switch me to Amy or Metal Sonic etc. I can only seem to switch alignment (ex. :Sonic --> Shadow). Do you know what I need to do to become characters like Amy or Metal Sonic (etc.)

Just use MainMemory's Character Select mod, this mod is really old.
