any advice for getting over 10 crates without getting killed?.

find the quickest path to the crate and ignore the enemies if they're not in your way. if you get mines, hold down fire while moving and you'll slowly but surely leave mines, which should kill any groups of enemies that pass near them. also, if you've got the bazooka or grenade launcher, shoot them into corners or (in the case of the grenade launcher) shoot a grenade in the entrance.

You should be able to get the first 3-6 crates fairly easily by just avoiding enemies. If you continue to avoid enemies, however, they will hit the fire at the bottom, turn red, drop down from the top again, and run fast. So, somewhere in the 3-6 crate range, look for an easy weapon to use like the revolver, machine gun, or whatever else you're comfortable killing with and then stop collecting crates. Clear the map of enemies with your easy to use weapon. You should then be able to get another 3-6 crates as simply as when you started. Rince repeat until you're over 10.
