My char keeps on pointing to the wrong direction, with his back to the right. When I run to the extreme left he turns around, but when I then run forward he faces the wrong way again.

the character points wherever your mouse cursor is, means you would have had your mouse cursor on the very left edge? xD
if you play with controller make sure you start the game up having the controller turned on already, some games get messed up if you dont..
