FTL Multiplayer?
after playing this game for a while, the thought of multiplayer crossed my mind, maybe a mod for it? my idea is that two players play in parallel universes and instead of fighting the flagship at the end of the game, you fight the other player

what do you think? is it a good idea? yay, or nay?

I think multiplayer would be totally awesome for this game.

Perhaps two players in the same sector? Where you could take over beacons so those beacons spawn enemies for the other player. That way it could be an interesting tug of war. And if you meet each other it would be an epic battle. I can see this combat system work for something like that.

Multiplayer would also greatly increase the replay value even more.

hmm... rather than simply fighting at the end, how about chasing each other around. As in, you can jump around as much as you want back and forth between sectors, but each beacon can only be visited once for profit. you can choose to find and fight your opponent at any time, but you have no idea what you are up against. you each take a turn to do what you need than both move on to the next when you both agree upon it. also, you start on opposite sides of the "map" and have no idea where the other player is until you are in the same sector. thats just how i'd see it going down

What happens if PlayerA makes it to the end and PlayerB dies before that from AI? It would really suck to join a game, start building up my ship just to get kicked out less than 10-20 minutes into it because someone else died.

It doesn't really need to be the very same game with another player. It could use the same mechanics to create a new game mode. I'd pay for that too.

Enlarged map, possibly turn based, after a certain amount of turns, player position is revealed (or you could find eachother). Somethin' like that.
I'm not entirely sure how it could exactly work, but something like Dark Souls would be cool too, where a random event on a jump might be finding another player's ship and having to fight it. (obviously an "online mode" toggle too).

I was thinking about multiplayer for this game, and it would definitely be really fun if done right.

you get to keep going other guys out, unless he beamed his crew to your ship at the last minute

SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO THIS THEN. I have no history in programming, but I would pay to have this feature implemented.
