I love replaying this game. I have to scumsave this.
Maybe it's because the game was set up with that in mind. Maybe it's because I went into this game knowing exactly what to expect from it. Who knows, I just know I love it even though every game after my 3rd has gone horribly. =D
Donkey Kong might be a better example in that it does have an end goal, and it can take a reasonable amount of time to get there. It's also punishingly difficult, at least for me. :P
Anyway, i'm well aware that a save game feature doesn't exist in every game. For some it isn't even appropriate (see pretty much ANY puzzle game.) I just think of it as a matter of choice for the player to determine what they want to do with saving a game. If you really want your game to be perma-death you can simply never save the game and disable autosaves and ANY game can be perma-death.
As I said before though, it doesn't seem to bother me with this game at all.
Call me noob if you wish, but i've been playing roguelikes for a loooong time and I know first hand that saving doesnt offer any advantage... other than to show you how the game works. And like I said, you still die if you dont know how to play the game.
Many people are cheating in single player games or doing strange things like running a bus line in GTA. So... never mind it's a single player game. It doesn't matter for your game experience if someone is cheating or not.
Helping newbs is a sign of being a newb.
That's some interesting logic you have there.
