On topic:
It will not be done, as it was intended as a singleplayer game and it works as a singleplayer game.
However, I would love a gamemode where you play a certain generated "world" with a specific ship, and then your friend will have to go through the exact same "world" with the same ship. The one with the highest score at the end wins.
Obviously, since the RNG has to have a part in this, random encounters would have to be, well, random. But I still think it would be nice if enemy positions and stores would be in the same place.
Or have the guy who's running the 'server' be the captain, and people who join in are the crew.
Sounds like it could be really wonderful chaos at times.
