Zoltan and their extra energy :D: But a crew with 50-50 of zoltan and rock/mantis would be great. Zoltan for energy, and rock/mantis to defend on board invasions.

I like the Zoltan for crew and Rockmen for Boarding Haven't unlocked the Zoltan cruiser yes I will have to check it out
Zoltan A is the best ship, if you ask me.

Rock as Zolten is so weak and would be easy to kill when borded. As long as u took down there energy field it would be simples.

Rock B. That's probably my favorite ship - fire bombs are absolute chaos for boarding.

Do you mean ship or as crew? In terms of ships Zoltan gets a nice easy start for the first couple of sectors because by the time the extra shield goes down you should be in charge of the fight and have the opponents weapons/shield down, plus you don't have to worry about boarding immediately.

Rock ships are both somewhat annoying - you either have the risky start with only missile weapons which can leave you stuck, or you have the no venting fires to space version B (and no doors to slow up the fires initially), which isn't so bad if you keep your original crew alive and get/upgrade your door system enough, but if you have some turnover of crew and end up with almost no rocks it makes fire a major issue when normally you always have options with every other ship.

In terms of crew the extra power of zoltan is nice, particularly late on when you are capped and/or the extra power is expensive to buy. They can be a bit messy - you always have that fun issue of sending your zoltan to fix the O2 generator which means the power goes off your shields/weapons while he is travelling unless you remember to depower something first, etc.

Rock crew are pretty great all round - no skill disadvantage like the mantis, good in a fight either boarding or repelling boarders due to their hp, and the slower movement speed rarely makes much difference I find. Plus compared to zoltan they seem to get quite a few more beneficial blue events (like guaranteed to put out the fire on the station, rather than having to risk a crew member being lost).

Advantages of Rock crew:

* Great combatants - same combat power as Mantis crew
* Can still repair decently (unlike Mantis)
* Immune to fire damage (but still worse at putting out fires than Engi)
* Several blue event options

Disadvantages of Rock crew:

* Slow as all hell, delaying all movement for kiting enemies, repairing, etc.

Advantages of Zoltan crew:

* Can go over the 25 power cap
* Can effectively give a free power by stealing power from the Teleporter or Cloaking systems while on cooldown
* 2 Zoltans can prevent your final shield bubble from being ionized

Disadvantages of Zoltan crew:

* 70 health, making them both awful fighters and a lot more vulnerable to misc. incoming projectiles
* The power they provide is worse than normal reactor power - you can accidentally depower things, and you might be down a power while moving, repairing, etc.

If you're comparing because of their cost in stores - Their overall power level is fairly comparable. I think they're both a bit overpriced at 65, though not drastically (I drop them both to 60 and bump Mantis to 50 in the Balance Mod[www.it-is-law.com])
I like using a combination of them both.
