FTL crashes immediately on startup...
Hey everyone,

I'm running windows 8 on my Surface Pro and wanted to play this game on it. It loaded exactly once and got to the main menu where I quit. Now, it never even fully opens the window before crashing.

Other steam games run fine. Ive tried uninstalling and re-installing FTL dozens of times, I've re-installed all my drivers and even uninstalled and reinstalled directX. No matter what I do, FTL will crash immediately on start-up.

Any clue what's going on? How do I fix this? :-/

I've had this problem before. What was happening was that my firewall was blocking the game from starting. Go into your firewall seting and make sure this game is allowed acess. (if this dosn't work then something else is blocking it) Hope this helped man.

Thanks for replying; unfortunately, that was not the error. I'll keep looking :-/

Wait, is Surface Pro x86? I always get confused about the CPUs and OSs on these tablets.

Yes; the surface pro has a full version of windows 8 running on an intel x86 cpu. The surface RT is the one that runs a special version of windows 8 on an ARM cpu.

Civ 5 is running flawlessly, as well as other games not from steam. The issues is linked to FTL and I've tried uninstalling it, deleting every hint of it from the registry, and rebooting several times, but the application refuses to open. It is very bizzare to me because it ran fine exactly ONCE - the first time I ran it. Ever since then, it will crash immediately on start-up :-/

I have the same problem. Has anyone figured out a fix for this?

Updating the graphics driver worked for me. here is a link to the driver: http://crashctrl.com/2013/02/surface-pro-drivers/

Hope this helps anyone else.

Ended up helping me out. Microsoft not releasing the latest drivers was rather unexpected. Thanks, thewheeloftimeturns!
