Finished 1st but DNF? (bug report?)
Just happened. Finished the race in first and just... kept going.

Didn't mark me as having crossed the finish line, timer started going, and ended in last.

That's one really freaky bug. Is this a lag/connection issue?

Yep. Your final lap will not register if there's a very high amount of lag.

Sucks to be me then.

Neeku will be able to tell in great amounts of detail how he's not finished due to this. :P

I think this one is due to lag specific to outgoing packets. I have an unusually high upload speed and bandwidth, so I never encounter this bug. However, I know that one of my friends who has encountered this bug has a slow connection (his upload speed is actually throttled on non-http connections), so it probably is at least partially caused by the DNF'd player's upload speed and bandwidth.

Can anyone confirm this?

My upload speed is not that great. But usually enough to play. When playing custom games with other players in myy immediate area, no problems.

I suspect that the added latency of playing with people from all over the continent adds to it all.

Considering upload is, for 99% of players out there, the limiting factor of their connection, it makes logical sense.
As I've said earlier on in another thread, this game loves upload bandwidth due to its peer to peer nature. It can peak up to about 60 kB/s when you're the host, and around 30-35 kBps when you're not, in a full house.

Is that the race I was playing with you? I saw one race where it showed you finished last(even though you had been racing awesome all the other races). I thought I was in 4th but then finished in 3rd.
PS, I've had this happen to me once before.

Likely so. I got lucky to start with a Hot Rod and then mostly played like it was a Time Trial with obstacles :P (It was in Graveyard Gig)

I had this happen twice more tonight.
The first time(tonight) that it occured was really odd....It was on Ocean View and upon entering the 3rd lap, it was not the water lap, it was the same as the first 2 laps. I kept racing after finishing the 3rd lap(and again the same track(land/driving) but I was actually able to finish the 4th lap before time ran out and I actually finished that time. It was weird.

The 2nd time it occured was on Seasonal Shrines, since all 3 laps are the same, it's hard to say if the problem is occuring just prior to the 3rd lap starting, rather than as the race is ending, but that is what the ocean view incident made me think. I think it may have also affected another racer in the game, as two of us DNF, which could possibly mean it doesn't just affect the person in first. again, just thinking/guessing, I have no idea what the problem is.

...I think it was the Graveyard Gig earlier, I might even have been hosting, can't remember? My upload is slow compared to my dl speed, 2mbps on average, but it seems it would be adequate.

I had this happen once on Temple Trouble. I managed to hold 1st for the last stretch of the race, then crossed the line and ... nothing. 10 seconds further down the track, the game realized I had finished and declared me to be in 4th, even though everyone else also saw me as being in 1st the entire time.
Neeku Mar 7, 2013 @ 10:44pm
It's definitely upload speed related but I'm not exactly sure how it affects it. I feel like only certain tracks give me 4th lap but it's probably just coincidence (mainly Graveyard Gig, Race of Ages and Burning Depths). I managed to finish a race on Burning Depths on lap 2 without even doing lap 3 somehow.

It might have been a downstream issue on the host's end in that specific case, or maybe just a few random dropped packets. I have a 3mbps upload which is nowhere near the 50mbps I get on download. You might want to use a network mapping tool to identify possible network black holes like dead IP Addresses and poorly configured firewalls.

It could also be IBN, or internet background noise. It is thought that a modern user loses about 20 bits per second to unsolicited traffic.

I've 2mbps and my upload speed is just 0,25mbps, more than 2 players and it's unplayable so i don't play the online of this game anymore and i don't think i'm the only. It's lame they didn't implement a host system like in left 4 dead with local server then the better host could host the game. Me playing on L4D with 8 players : 65 ms maximum - On SASRT with 10 : 500 ms maybe no joke.
