Few power ups?
Anyone more feels that the game have few powerups and that they should add 5 or 6 more?

I mean, the game is fun but it feels like needs more variety of funny powerups like the blue shell, the squid to blind people, maybe special powerups that have different effects if you use in airplane than kart or ships . For example oil in the karting mode could make your kart driving funny, on the water slow you like an oil spill and in the air emulate a failure of motors resting vision to others.

Right now the game its funny, but feels a little dull after some time.

Honestly, with the way the powerups are ballanced, there's really not that much room for yet another item. Maybe something to replace either ice or fireworks (since they're redundant) or something to increase variaty in order to avoid spamfests, but right now the game is more or less set in stone.

Ice and Fireworks aren't redundant.

Fireworks bounces off walls. Ice doesn't.
Ice stacks. Fireworks doesn't.
You only get one Firework while you get three Ice.
Yes they are similar in that they are both high speed projectiles but that's where the similarities end.

Blue shells are an abomination to game design and the sooner we forget about them entirely, the better. All the items in the game can be blocked or dodged. This was designed this way on purpose to keep things fair and balanced. Besides, the Swarm (or Sky Tigers if you prefer) already handle that job in fair way. Unavoidable items are bad design.

The oil spill ideas you propose are pretty much already handled by the Blowfish and Twister. Adding the oil spill along with those wouldn't really add anything we don't already have.

In any case. The items have been carefully balanced and tested thoroughly. Adding more items at this point would be a design nightmare. It would take dozens of hours of planning and testing and tweaking to be able to introduce them into the game. You can all but guarantee that there won't be any more items added later on. Be glad that they're at least as fair as possible for a kart-racer.

They still serve the same purpose, however. I've rarely seen a firework that bounced off a wall hit the intended target.

I've had several times where I've blindly shot a firework backwards, had it bounce who knows where, and have it hit "something". And for me, that's still pretty good. :P

REVERSE LONGSHOT!
BLIND FIRE!
IceBlade Mar 4, 2013 @ 1:48pm
Ice is the most overpowered offensive weapon in the game. Fireworks doesn't have anywhere near the stopping potential. Burst fire Ice, however, is bad. Fireworks also has limited range, ice doesn't. Especially noticeable in Temple Trouble and Egg Hangar.

I'm glad that there's no Blue Shell in this game, but it does sort of swing the balance in favour of first place a little bit. If you lose the initial dash to first it becomes winnable but a lot harder to pull ahead, particularly if you can't gain ground from being a better driver than whoever is first.

Blinding attacks in my opinion only serve as frustration and add absolutely nothing to the gameplay - twister (as annoying as it is) serves that purpose a lot better.

All in all the weapons in this game are designed around the fact that you can do *something* to avoid them. Fireworks with its crazy bouncing can be a bit difficult at times though :)

Also worth noting that firing backwards to a player who's far behind you, and doesn't pose an immediate threat to you, won't do anything to advance your position and help you. Best to fire forwards in nearly all cases. Exception is if there's a known good player who's using a 1 accel mod...

Thank you, second it....

As far as blinding power ups go, I find them completely useless(Might be just me, who knows?). I personally always memorize my environment near-instantly(some brain thing I have), so the ink to the eyes just isn't really much of anything, and not particularly challenging. Plus, if you play single-player(such as WT/GP), I've always doubted the Com's ability to get blinded by such things, so it would just give a singleplayer race the chance of getting a useless item(The blindness may work on a Com, but I'd guess it wouldn't be rather useful.)

Well that explains why everyone shoots at me when there's no bigger threat in the room...

Pity we don't get matched against each other often; I'm sure there'd be a load more stuff thrown at you! :P
I still have Neeku and TaiLoser to bully so I'm ok.

Oh, I didn't thought that people could see this game as a competitive one. I see it as a funny without being competitive as a mario kart alternative where the power-ups are better if you are one of the last runners and where being the better driver doesn't guarantees you a clear victory.
IceBlade Mar 4, 2013 @ 4:37pm
If there were no lag issues this would be a pretty competitive arcade racer (well, more so than most other games of the same genre out there). The mechanics of the game are very balanced, not obtrusive, and the skill curve is pretty steep. As it stands now, it's fun, has a LOT of depth for what it is, but its true potential in terms of online skill is held back by issues. The good players will always consistently place 1st, 2nd or 3rd though in an average lobby, regardless of how the race actually went for them.

Yeah I mostly agree, my only complaint is that the powerups are a meh at best. Wow, I hit you with a rocket and you weren't even out for three seconds until you were up at full speed again. But yeah, the game is great.

Those three seconds can be the difference between a win and a loss.

Yes, but four would be better...expecually if you waste a second and a half to get the item that stuns them in the first place.
